Alan W. Schmidlkofer, age 81, of New Holstein, passed away with his family at his side at the Homestead Health Services on Sunday, October 30, 2022.
He was born March 20, 1941, in Chilton to the late Alois & Edith (Arenz) Schmidlkofer. Al attended schools in Chilton, graduating in 1959. Al lettered in basketball and played football as well.
Al enlisted in the US Army on August 28, 1959; stationed in Heidelberg, Germany in the Military Police. He was discharged from active duty on June 21, 1962 and remained in the Reserves until August 27, 1965.
On July 17, 1981, he married Karen Busse. Al had worked at Arps, MB Corp. and Lakeside Harvestore. During his retirement years, he worked at Art Unlimited and at the New Holstein NAPA.
Al was a well-known figure in the community and truly enjoyed putting a smile on everybody's face. He was big-hearted; always willing to lend a hand to others. He was a big sports fanatic; enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, and Bucks. Fishing was a favorite pastime of Al. He passed on his love of the outdoors to his children.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; his three children, Steve (Karen) Schmidlkofer of Anchorage, AK, Linda Chomyn of West Allis, WI, and Jerry (Lis) Schmidlkofer of Middleton, WI; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, LeRoy (Debbie) Schmidlkofer, Joe Schmidlkofer, Dennis (Cindy) Voigt; his mother-in-law, Betty Busse; his sister-in-law, Debbie (Steve) Casper. He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother; and his father-in-law, Carl Busse.
Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Al's family at the Sippel Funeral Home on Thursday, November 3rd from 2:00 PM until 4:45 PM.
Al's family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for Al throughout this difficult time, with special thanks to the Homestead staff for their exceptional care.
Al will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Visitors attending the visitation/service are asked to wear masks.
