Alfrieda Marie Meyer, 94, passed away peacefully at Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt Calvary WI on Thursday, May 20, 2021 surrounded by family. Alfrieda had been at the Villa's since 2013. She was well known as the lady who picked the hickory nuts for the sisters. Alfrieda was born July 23, 1926 to Oscar & Frances (Buhl) Herzog of St Anna. Alfrieda attended school in St Anna and later graduated from New Holstein High School, Class of 1944. On April 4, 1945 Alfrieda married Robert Meyer in St Anna. They moved to their farm in Johnsburg where they farmed until 1980. The couple then moved to St Peter where they lived at the mink ranch that they had run, along with the farm, until 1987. Robert preceded her in death on April 27, 1995. After retirement Alfrieda enjoyed traveling. She was able to visit many places including Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, and New Zealand just to name a few. She also enjoyed playing cards, gardening, sewing, reading and picking out hickory nuts. Alfrieda's faith was a very important part of her life and was evident to all who knew her. She belonged to St John the Baptist Church, Johnsburg, The Altar & Rosary Society. She was also very active in the American Legion Auxillary of Mt Calvary. Alfrieda was also a Gold Star Mother. She was a member of the Kettle Moraine Mink Breeders Association. She sewed many quilts and other sewing projects, over the years, through different groups. Alfrieda is survived by her children: Rita (Jim) Roehrig of New Holstein, David (Bea) Meyer of St Cloud, Jane (Jim) Schmitz of St. Peter, Rosie (David) Kreisman of rural Mt Calvary, Therese (Rick) Petrie of North Fond du Lac and Joe (LuAnn) Meyer of Fond du Lac "Johnsburg". Also surviving are Grandchildren Paul Roehrig, Brian Roehrig, Stephen(Tricia) Roehrig, Mark(Kay)Schmitz, Jeff (Michelle)Schmitz, Daniel Schmitz, Mike (Katie) Petrie, Shelly (Mike) Weber, Andy (Marie) Petrie, Tim (Kate) Petrie, Kurt Petrie, Ryan Petrie (fiancé, Gina Bloczynski), Scott (Denise) Meyer, Kimberly (Steven) Puckett. She was Great Grandma to 16 Great Grandchildren. Alfrieda is survived by a sister in law, Joan (Leo) Abler of Bakersfield, CA. Alfrieda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert & a son, Leo. Also preceding her were a son in law, Robert Petrie and a Grandson, Todd Petrie, a brother Roland, and a sister Lois (Walter) Casper. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg (N9288 County Road W, Malone, WI 53049. Rev. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap will officiate. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Alfrieda's family at the church in Johnsburg Tuesday morning, May 25th from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM. The Family wishes to thank the Sisters and the entire staff of the Villas of Mt Calvary for the excellent care they took of Alfrieda the last years of her life.
