Obituary

Alphonse W. "Hans" Schneider, age 90, of Malone died peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Hans was born February 14, 1931, to Bruno and Clara (Freund) Schneider in Jericho. He married Ella Mae Koenigs at St John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg on October 2, 1951. Hans and Ella Mae recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. A farmer all his life, Hans began farming in the Jericho area. In 1963, he and Ella Mae purchased her parents farm in Johnsburg. In July 2021 they were awarded the Sesquicentennial Ownership Certificate by the State of Wisconsin in recognition of 150 years of continuous family farm ownership. Hans loved music. He could be heard singing in the barn, on the tractor, and in the church choir. He also sang with the Longbranch Saloon singers and sang and played harmonica with the Melody Mixers band. Every family reunion, garage party, and Christmas gathering involved singing, and his beautiful tenor voice will be truly missed. Cherishing his memory are his loving wife, Ella Mae, and their children; Barbara (Steve) Knickel, Grace (Joseph) Wagner, Dave (Julie) Schneider, Gloria (Gary) Stenz, Yvonne "Bonnie" (Rick) Pfeifer, Karen (Ken) Steffes, Mike (Janet) Schneider, Dan (Sherry) Schneider, and Rick (Patti) Schneider; 21 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters; Germaine Mand, Romilda Schmitz, Evie Pavlicek; his brother, Frank (Ginny) Schneider; and brothers-in-law Ron Reinl and Eddie Koenigs. Preceding him in death were his parents, Bruno & Clara Schneider; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Henry & Mary Koenigs; his brother, Melvin (Dorothy) Schneider; his sisters, Marcelline (Ralph) Gundert, Dolores Reinl, and Mildred Koenigs; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gilbert Mand, Donald Schmitz, Marvin Muellenbach, Lou Pavlicek, Melvin (Alice) Koenigs, Delmore Koenigs, Lawrence Koenigs, and Edna Koenigs. The family would like to give special thanks to Hans and Ella Mae's caregivers, Shannon Freund, Judy Costello, and the team, whose care and devotion allowed them to remain in their home. Special thanks to Dr. Strong, Agnesian (SSM) Hospice, and Father Randy. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:30 PM on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, N9288 County Road W, Malone, WI 53049.
