Alvera Rose Weinreis, age 93, formerly of Hilbert, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014.
The former Alvera Dohr was born October 23, 1920, in Hilbert; the youngest of nine children of the late Anton & Anna (Jacobs) Dohr.
On June 17, 1941, she married Alex Weinreis at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert. Alex preceded her in death on October 4, 1980.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert and its Christian Women's Society. Alvera was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her kindness and willingness to help others, especially her family, was well known. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, and especially playing miniature golf. She also enjoyed little trips throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states.
Survivors include her son, Michael and his friend, Nancy, of Mequon; her daughter, Joanne (Larry) Balthazor of New Holstein; seven grandchildren, Debbie (Dave) Bunnell, Lisa (Carl) Linzmeier, Brenda (Bill) Atkinson, Connie (Jamie) Nenahlo, Cindy (Joe) Van Daalwyk, Lori Christopherson, and Brian (Hazel) Balthazor; 12 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Jeff, Brandon, Andrew, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Brianna, Brooke, Gavin, Brayden, Trevin, and Alexandria; two great-great-grandchildren, Ashton and Xander. She is further survived by two brothers-in-law, John Weinreis and Bob Schicker; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Alex; her parents, Anton & Anna Dohr; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Querin & Theresa Weinreis; four sisters, Loretta Dickrell, Viola Zastrow, Mary Ann Dohr, and Lorena Schicker; and four brothers, Sylvester Dohr, Edmund Dohr, Norbert Dohr, and Alvin Dohr.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hilbert on Monday, March 3, 2014, with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Alvera was laid to rest in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Hilbert.
