It was just one more way Andy showed his care and attention to the people and things that mattered most to him.

Andrew “Andy” G. Karls, age 82 of Marytown, died unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday evening, September 9, 2026.

Andy was born to the late Herman and Elizabeth (Boehnlein) on February 4, 1944 in the house he died in. He was a graduate of New Holstein High School with the class of 1962; following graduation he enlisted in the National Guard. On April 29, 1967 he married Geraldine Klapperich at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marytown. Andy dedicated over 43 years of his life to Tecumseh Products before retiring. His strong work ethic and commitment to his job were a reflection of the kind of person he was—dependable, hardworking, and always willing to give his best. He also took great pride in farming on the family homestead, carrying on a tradition that was close to his heart.

Andy believed in being an active part of his community and gave his time generously to many organizations. He was a proud member of the Marytown Veteran’s Club and the Marytown Athletic Club, where he was well known for taking great pride in selling tickets for the Harley Raffle each year. He was also a member of the New Holstein Sports Advisory Committee and served as one of the main contacts for the athletic field. Through these organizations and his many years of service, Andy made a lasting difference in the community he cared so much about.

When Andy wasn’t working or volunteering, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time fishing and hunting, finding enjoyment in the outdoors and the traditions that came with them. He also took tremendous pride in his lawn. He made sure his own lawn—and the lawns of his family—were always freshly mowed and perfectly manicured. Andy loved attending the various sporting events that his grandchildren participated in. It was just one more way Andy showed his care and attention to the people and things that mattered most to him.

Andy’s hardworking spirit, dedication to his community, love of the outdoors, and pride in his family and home will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Geraldine; three children: Terri (Brian) Harrison, GA, Brad (Angela) Karls, Marytown and Jon (Katie) Karls, Marytown; six grandchildren: Mason (Kelsey) Karls, Jenna Karls (Caleb), Ashley Harrison, Kourtney Karls (Wyatt), Joey Karls and Ben Karls; one great grandchild on the way; and three sisters: Ludina Schmitz, Betty Mae Kraus and Shirley Jacques. Andy is further survived by his brothers-in-law: Lloyd Klapperich, Gene (Pat) Klapperich, Dave (JoAnn) Klapperich and Stan (Rosie) Klapperich, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Rosetta (Tony) Kraus; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Elmer Schmitz, Benno Kraus, Ray Jacques, Sue Klapperich and Ken Klapperich.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish – St. Mary Church, Marytown. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap. Per Andy’s wishes cremation will take place following the mass and he will be laid to rest at the parish cemetery at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 1:00PM until 3:45PM when brief family rites will be held.
