Anthony B. Schmitz, 89, of Fond du Lac, formerly of Mount Calvary, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 21, 2017.
He was born February 1, 1927, at St. Agnes Hospital to Mathias & Ottilia (Schneider) Schmitz.
On June 20, 1950, he married Mae Bleuel at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary.
Tony had worked at Rueping Leather Co. in Fond du Lac until retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church in Mount Calvary and the Knights of Columbus in Fond du Lac. He was a former member of the Winnebago East Shore Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mae; five children, Joan (Dennis) Hill of Manitowish Waters, Allen (Mary Ann) Schmitz of Malone, Rick (Bonnie) Schmitz of Fond du Lac, Diane (Dean) Salchert of St. Cloud and Larry Schmitz (special friend, Deborah Lee Duff) of Fond du Lac; 12 grandchildren, Alan Kuenzi, Susan Sinner, Phillip Schmitz, Jessica Muench, Thomas Schmitz, David Schmitz, Jaryd Schmitz, Matt Salchert, Mitch Salchert, Christopher Salchert, Arielle Wollerscheim, and Leah Schmitz; 15 great-grandchildren; his sister, Bernetta "Nettie" Pauly of Mount Calvary; his brother, Alvin (Donna) Schmitz of Fond du Lac; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Schmitz of Mount Calvary and Rita Immel of Calvary. He is further survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Sally (Paul) Wagner, Elizabeth "Elsie" (Vernon "Bud") Sippel, and Virginia (Donald) Rahmer; eight brothers, Alex (Viola) Schmitz, Alfred (Marion) Schmitz, Arnold (Marjorie) Schmitz, Ambrose Schmitz, Andrew (Zona) Schmitz, Alphonse (Rosie) Schmitz and two infant brothers, Albin and Arlyn Schmitz; and three brothers-in-law, Sylvester "Sonny" Pauly, Alois (Marylyn) Bleuel and Lawrence Immel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church, 308 S. County Road W, Mount Calvary, WI 53057. Rev. Oliver Bambenek, OFM Cap will officiate. Entombment will take place at Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
Visitation: Family and friends may greet the family at the church Wednesday, January 25th from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
