Anthony "Tony" A. Schmitz, age 95, of Mount Calvary, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary. Tony was born April 8, 1922, in the Town of Taycheedah near St. Peter to George & Julia (Schaefer) Schmitz. He attended St. Peter Catholic School. On June 19, 1945, he married Lois Haensgen at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. Lois preceded him in death on December 18, 1946. On November 21, 1959, he married Francine Karls Stephany at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg. Francine preceded him in death on September 20, 2010. Tony farmed in the Town of Marshfield until his retirement in 1982. In addition to farming, Tony drove school bus for the Fond du Lac School Districts. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church in Mount Calvary. Tony was an avid bowler and enjoyed a good golf game. Tony is survived by his son, Paul (Linda) Schmitz of Malone; his step-children, Donna Koenigs of Plymouth and Jerome (Gail) Stephany of Lomira; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is further survived by his sister, Evelyn Korb of Marytown; his sister-in-law, Ludina Schmitz of Mount Calvary; nieces; nephews, other relatives; and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, George & Julia Schmitz; his first wife, Lois; his second wife, Francine; a step son-in-law, Daniel Koenigs; three brothers, Leo Schmitz, Robert Schmitz, and Elmer Schmitz; and two sisters, Viola Muellenbach and Mildred Sabel. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church, 308 S. County Road W, Mount Calvary, WI 53057. Rev. Larry Abler, OFM Cap will preside. Tony will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery later this spring.
