Anton "Tony" L. Mathes, age 66, of rural New Holstein, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at the Calumet Medical Center after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.
He was born February 19, 1951, to Harvey H. Sr. & Angeline (Heimann) Mathes. Tony attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1969.
On May 23, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Korb, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown.
Tony retired from Briess Industries in Chilton in February of 2016 where he worked for 35 years. Tony enjoyed the outdoors; going to the family cabin up north, hunting, and taking his grandchildren fishing. He looked forward to his yearly vacations and trips to Door County. Many hours were spent in his yard, creating in his shed, and repairing almost anything that needed fixing. Time spent with his family was his greatest joy, especially with his grandchildren. His presence will be greatly missed by everyone.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein.
Tony is survived by his wife, Judy; three children, Tim (Nicki) and their daughter, Lauren; Tammy (Mike) Rudie and their children, Jalen, Olivia, and Griffin; Bobby (Jen) and their children, Macy, Grayson, and Harrison; his brothers and sisters, Harvey Jr. (Sally), Dorothy (Dave) Wollersheim, William (Nancy), Helen, Edward (Judy), JoAnn (David) Mischo, Bernice (Gilbert) Mattson, Melvin (Judy), Donald (Maribeth), and Ervin (Paula); his sisters-in-law & brother-in-law, Ginny Korb, Marvin (Donna) Korb, and Mary Ann (Jim) Schaefer. Tony is further survived by godchildren, Kris Flood, Lori Braun, and Alyssa Suttner; many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
In addition to his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gottfried & Estelle Korb, he was preceded in death by his infant son; his brother, Jerome; his sisters-in-law, Lou Mathes, and Geraldine Korb and his brother-in-law, Andy Korb.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, Wisconsin 53061. Rev. Pat Nelson will officiate with Parish Director, Joe Zenk assisting.
Visitation: Family and friends may greet the family at the church Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until 12:15 PM.
