Bernice A. (Abler) Diederichs, 83, formerly of Malone "St. Peter", passed away peacefully, with her loving family at her side, Thursday, April 5, 2018, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary where she resided for the past 3 ½ years.
Bernice was born September 29, 1934 near St. Cloud to William & Rose (Braun) Abler. She attended grade school at St. Cloud Catholic School and also attended St. Mary Springs High School in Fond du Lac.
On July 23, 1955, she married Gerald S. Diederichs at St. Cloud Catholic Church.
Bernice and her husband farmed on the Diederichs' homestead in the Town of Taycheedah for nearly 40 years. In addition, Bernice had worked part time at Silica Gardens.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg and the church's Altar Society. Bernice volunteered for many years at the Villa Loretto.
Bernice enjoyed baking, gardening, attending family functions. Family was a very important part of her life.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years of marriage, Gerald; her six children, Pat (Fran) Kraus of Malone, Mary (Ron) Baus of Mount Calvary, Dan (Lori) Diederichs of Fond du Lac, Mark (Laurie) Diederichs of Malone, Tom (Kathy) Diederichs of Malone, and Paul (Nancy) Diederichs of Malone; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren with the 25th expected soon; her sisters and brother, Julitta (Elmer) Schmitz, Rita Diederichs; Lorraine Ballwanz, Marian (Ron) Freund, Don (Diana) Abler, Kathy (Al) Kempf; and her sisters-in-law, Joanne Diederichs, Edna (Donnie) Nadler. She is further survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, William & Rose Abler; an infant daughter, Anna; a granddaughter, Angela; a great-granddaughter, Amelia; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie (Marie) Abler and Roger "Cheesie" (Mary) Abler; her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Albert & Priska Diederichs; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Diederichs, Bob Ballwanz, Jerome Diederichs.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, N9288 County Road W, Malone, WI 53049. Rev. Larry Abler, OFM Cap, Bernice's first cousin, will officiate with the assistance of Rev. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap. Entombment will take place at Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
Visitation: Family and friends may visit with the family on Monday, April 9th at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street, St. Cloud, WI 53079 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will also take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Tuesday morning, April 10th from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.
A memorial fund will be established in her name.
