Obituary

Bernice H. Preder, age 85, of New Holstein, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. The former Bernice Rumpff was born November 20, 1930, in the Town of Schleswig in Manitowoc County to the late Oscar & Lillie (Grossheim) Rumpff. Bernice graduated from Kiel High School in 1948. On October 1, 1949, she married Edwin "Eddie" Preder at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in the Town of Schleswig; Eddie preceded her in death on December 21, 2002. Bernice and Eddie operated a dairy farm in the Town of Charlestown until 1982. She had also worked for a short time at Hernke Cheese in Hilbert and Sargento in Kiel for several months until retiring in August 1993. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Holstein. She also belonged to the Women's Fellowhip serving as treasurer for eight years and assisting with serving for funeral luncheons. Bernice was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary # 1288 in Chilton where she was named "Grandmother of the Year" in 2014. She was a 4-H Leader for 20 years. Some hobbies that Bernice enjoyed doing were, gardening, tending to her flowers, playing dominos, playing cards and putting jig saw puzzles together. Family was everything to her, if possible, she would attend sporting events that her grandchildren participated in. Survivors include her five children, Garry (Kim) Preder of Glenbeulah, David (Yvonne) Preder of Plymouth, Nancy Krahn (Bruce Froh) of Glenbeulah, Roger (Debra) Preder of Weyauwega and Donald Preder of Weyauwega; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Lloyd (Darlene) Rumpff of Kiel; her sister, Marian (Bernard) Schweitzer of Kiel; two sisters-in-law, Marge Preder of Elkhart Lake and Lorraine Meyer of Sun Prairie; a brother-in-law, Jim Miller of Plymouth. She if further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding Bernice in death were her parents; her husband, Eddie; two grandchildren, a great-grandchild and two sisters. She is further preceded in death by four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, March 18, 2016, at St. John United Church of Christ 2111 Church Street New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. James E. Werner will officiate. Bernice will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Kohler. Visitation: Family and friends may call at the church Friday, March 18th from 2:00 PM until the time of services.
