Betty Lou Schmidt

Betty Lou Schmidt, age 84, formerly of Brillion, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Betty was born on April 4, 1933 in the town of Rockland, daughter of the late Robert and Alice (Haese) Luedtke.  She attended grade school at the little one room school house of Long Lake School.  On May 14, 1949, she married Eugene E. Schmidt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clarks Mills.  Betty worked at Mirro Corp from 1961 until her retirement in 1992.  She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Christian Mothers and Ladies Society.  Betty loved fishing, gardening, crocheting, baking, canning, working side by side with her husband in the junk yard and with antiques, spending time traveling with Eugene all over the United States to places such as Florida and over the Mackinac Bridge, and vacationing at the couples’ Crivitz cottage at Silverlift that they built together in 1974.

Betty is survived by her husband of 68 years, Eugene; their children: Carol (Clarence) Leitner, Eugene (Kathleen), Roger (Tammy), Kenneth (John Mcdonald), Robert (Sherry), and Tammy Jo (Chad) Westphalen; 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; her nieces she helped raise, Mary Ann Schmidt and Shirley Ann and Dorismae Kubale; other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Gary Lee in 1969, one grandson, Eugene, her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Joseph and Betsy (Robinson) Schmidt, and a sister and brother-in-law: Ovella (Harold) Kubale.

Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion.  Officiating will be Rev. Timothy Brandt.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Reedsville.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
