Beverly Horn

June 25, 1930 — April 8, 2014

Beverly "Bev" Ann Horn, age 83, of Brillion, was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Brillion WestHaven, surrounded by her family. Bev was born on June 25, 1930 in Brillion, daughter of the late Rudy and Elaine (Lewis) Bessert. She was a graduate of Brillion High School. She also was a graduate from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee, was vice president of her class, and remained friends with many of her classmates. On July 26, 1952, Bev married Henry Horn V at Trinity Lutheran Church, the church where they both had been confirmed and remained lifelong members. She was an active member and past officer of the Calumet County ARC. Along with a group of parents of children with disabilities, she helped to start the first school in Calumet County for their children. She was very active in the building of New Hope Center, served on the New Hope Center Board of Directors, and she volunteered there for many years. Bev was also a past Girl Scout leader and was a volunteer for Aid to Military Families and Veterans. After becoming a paraplegic in 1985, she still was able to enjoy her family and friends, book club, her bridge group, and luncheons with former school classmates. The best times were had with her family, overnight parties with grandchildren, and getting to know her great-grandchildren. Bev is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Lori and Russ Hansen of Appleton; son and daughter-in-law: Henry VI "Hank" and Lori Horn of Brillion; grandchildren: Kristin (Andreas) Helmigk, Lauren (Brian) Licht, Nick (Katie) Hansen, Henry VII (Kit) Horn, and Katie Horn; great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Carsten Helmigk, Jacob and Alexander Licht, Simon and Harper Horn, and baby boy Hansen due June 1st; one brother: Don Bessert of Brillion; one sister and brother-in-law: Trudi (Matt) Lavey of Chilton; two sisters-in-law: Helen Howard and Marge Horn; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Heidi, three brothers-in-law: Roger Rusch, Dr. William Howard, and John Horn, and a sister-in-law: Jeanette Rusch. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion. Officiating will be the Revs. Ross Henzi and Thomas Fricke with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Brillion.
