Obituary

Brian Carey, age 79, of New Holstein, passed away peacefully Friday, December 15, 2017, with his loving family at his side. He was born February 13, 1938, in Buckingham County in England to George & Dorothy (Stimpson) Carey. Brian's family immigrated to the United States in 1946 settling in the Palatine , Illinois area. He graduated from Barrington High School. On October 8, 1960, he married Shirley Kandler at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein. He worked at Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein for 41 years. He retired in 2000. In 2001, he began working at the job he loved at Whistling Straits Golf Course where he remained for 15 years. Brian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein. He taught Sunday school, served as an usher and church elder. He was a charter member of the New Holstein First Responders which began in 2000. Brian enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, watching sports on tv and spending time at his cottage in Mountain, WI. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his four children, Jerrilynn (Dennis) Sarver of Fond du Lac, Doug Carey of Fond du Lac, Craig (Carol) Carey of New Holstein, and Shawn Carey of New Holstein; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; his sister, Susan (Joseph) Johnson of Round Lake Beach, IL; two brothers, Keven (Dolores) Fremter of Redding, CA and Rudolph (Betty) Fremter of Round Lake Park, IL. He is further survived by his two brothers-in-law, James Kandler and William (Mary) Kandler, both of New Holstein; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Preceding Brian in death was his father, George Carey; his mother & step-father, Dorothy & Rudolph Fremter; his sister, Caroline Johnson; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Gilbert & Edna Kandler; a sister-in-law, Sandra Kandler; three nephews; and a niece. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 18, 2017, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1724 Van Buren Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Azor Cigelski will officiate. Brian will be laid to rest in the Countryview Cemetery in the Town of New Holstein. Visitation: Family and friends may greet the family at Zion Lutheran Church on Sunday, December 17th from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Visitation will also be at the church Monday morning, December 18th from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
