Obituary

Bruce A. Schaar, age 69, of New Holstein, passed away with his loving family at his side on Monday, September 27, 2021, at his home following a brief battle with cancer. He was born May 9, 1952, to Jane (Garbe) Schaar and the late Orville "Jack" Schaar. Bruce graduated from New Holstein High School in 1970. On April 1, 1981, he married Mary Halbach in Las Vegas. Starting at a young age, Bruce worked alongside his father, who established Schaar's Service Station in 1952. In 1982, he became a partner in the business and continued operating the business until he retired in 2018. Bruce was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein and a very active member with Outdoors Inc. Conservation Club. He held various positions on the board at the Outdoors. Bruce served for many years on the Sign Committee for the City of New Holstein. His passion was trapshooting and spending time in the swamp during fall and winter months and at the Schaar family cottage on Little Elkhart Lake during the summer. Bruce is survived by his wife, Mary; his two daughters, Sonny Schaar of New Holstein and April (Luke) Lisch of New Holstein; his two granddaughters, Kinsley & Adalyn Lisch; his mother, Jane Schaar of New Holstein; his sister, Ann (Jeff) Webber of New Holstein: his brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Don (Nancy) Halbach, Gerry (JoAnn) Halbach, Jean (Tom) Mueller, Joan (Rick) Mueller, Dan (Karen) Halbach, Paul (Jan) Halbach, Mike (Cindy) Halbach, Deb (Mike) Heus, Steve Halbach, and Scott (Mary Beth) Halbach; his two god-children, Jake Webber and Haley Halbach. He is further survived by numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. Preceding him in death were his father, Orville "Jack" Schaar; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Syl & Helen Halbach; his sister-in-law, Tootie (Charlie) Kraus; and his aunt, Alice (Jerome) Schmitz. Funeral Services for Bruce will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 4, 2021, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1702 Van Buren Street, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Azor Cigelske will officiate. Bruce will be laid to rest in the Eaton Union Cemetery in the Town of Eaton following the service. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Bruce's family on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061 from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 PM. Visitation will also be at the funeral home Monday morning, October 4th from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. There will be no visitation at the church. Bruce's family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at Calumet County Hospice, the doctors and staff with Ascension medical team, and the numerous relatives and friends that visited him.
