Obituary

Catherine A. Steffes, 95, formerly of Mount Calvary died Monday October 25, 2010, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. The former Catherine Engel was born February 20, 1915, in the Town of Taycheedah to the late William J. & Agnes (Goebel) Engel. Catherine attended St. Michael's Grade School in Dotyville. On May 12, 1937, she married Edwin Steffes at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. Her husband preceded her in death on December 28, 1966. She and her husband farmed in the rural Mount Calvary area in the Town of Marshfield. Catherine was a member of St. Isidore Parish Holy Cross Church in Mount Calvary, a member of the Christian Women's Society, and a member of the Calvary Homemakers. Survivors include her four children, Mary (Joe) Meyer of Kiel, Leo (Agnes) Steffes of Mount Calvary, Al (Karen) Steffes of Madison and Gene Steffes of Milwaukee; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; her sister, Virginia Steffes of Mount Calvary and her sister-in-law, Rose Engel Meyer of Mount Calvary. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edwin; two infant sons; a grandson, Jim Meyer; two brothers, Norbert Engel and Lawrence (Leona) Engel; a sister, Mildred (Albert) Pickart, two sisters-in-law, Mildred Steffes and Leona Steffes and two brothers-in-law, Ben Steffes and Walter Meyer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday October 29, 2010 at St. Isidore Parish Holy Cross Church 308 County Road W in Mount Calvary. Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Mount Calvary. Family and friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of services. A Memorial Fund will be established in her name. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Franklin House for their wonderful care they gave to her during her time living there.
