Charles “Charlie” Walt, age 80, of Reedsville, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Garrow Villa Assisted Living Facility in Brillion following a courageous battle with cancer.
Charlie was born on December 5, 1936 in Reedsville, son of the late Ellis Walt and Bernice (Sonnabend) Denk. He was a graduate of Reedsville High School, class of 1950. Charlie served our country in the United States Air Force. On September 21, 1956, he married Betty Jane Zipperer at St. John St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville. Charlie worked as a meat cutter in Brillion and in Reedsville for a few years before working at Lakeside Harvester building and clearing silos until his retirement. Even in retirement, he still worked at Hamp Haven Farm. Nothing held him back, he had no fear. He enjoyed fishing for small mouth bass, hunting, woodworking, yard work with Betty, and playing poker with the guys. He and Betty belonged to the Snowmobiling Club and did many things together. Charlie was also a member of the Reedsville Fire Department, retiring with 20 years of service. He loved spending time with his family.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; their children and spouses: Randy (Pam) Walt, Ric (Lynnette) Walt, Scott (Su) Walt, Terry (Nancy) Walt, and Tami Jo Walt; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Sara (special friend Scott), Curtis (Melissa) and their daughter Lillian, Brian (special friend CJ), Joshua (Ashley) and children: James and Sophie, and Jesse (Tiffany) and their son Jackson; one sister: Madonna Kleinhans; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Sandy (Mike) Dewane, Darlene Zipperer-Sheehy, Brenda Zipperer, and Reiny (Laura) Zipperer; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
