Obituary

Clarence M. Schaefer, 89, of Malone died Friday, November 26, 2010 at his residence. He was born June 9, 1921, in Mount Calvary to the late Frank and Mary (Schoenborn) Schaefer. He attended Holy Cross Grade School. Clarence served in the Army during World War II from November 21, 1942 until November 10, 1943. On October 11, 1944, he married Stella Kraus at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Peter. His wife preceded him in death on March 18, 2001. Clarence owned Schaefer Auto Repair in Peebles and in 1966; he went to work at Mercury Marine in the Engineering Dept. He retired in 1985. He was a member of Holy Family Parish. A Life Member of the Abler-Engel American Legion Post 454 in Mount Calvary where he also was past Post Commander and had served on the Firing Squad. Clarence was past Fond du Lac County Commander. He was a lifetime member of the Badger Steam Engine Club, belonged to the R.S. Vintage Steel, Empire Threshing Association, Kewaskum Historical Society, Wisconsin Steam Antique Engine Club and a member of the Malone Area Heritage Museum. Survivors include his two sons, Richard "Dick" C. (Ophielia) Schaefer and Robert "Bob" F. (Chris) Schaefer both of Malone; two grandchildren, Rebecca Smith of Fredonia and Tim (Alicia) Schaefer of North Fond du Lac; four step-grandchildren, Henry (Julie) Meinert of Malone, David (Jackie) Meinert of St. Cloud, Sue (David) Weber of New Holstein "Marytown" and Tammy Meinert of Sun Prairie; six great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cyril (Mary) Schaefer and James (Mary) Schaefer both of Mount Calvary; four brothers-in-law, Eugene Lefeber of St. Cloud, Lawrence (Marie) Kraus of St. Peter, Clarence (Sara) Kraus of Mount Calvary and Elmer Sabel of New Holstein; five sisters-in-law, Stella Schaefer of Johnsburg, Mildred (James) Murphy of Fond du Lac, Esther Schumacher of Fond du Lac, Bernice (Delbert) Sabel of North Fond du Lac and Mary Kraus of St. Peter. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Stella; two brothers, Francis & Claude Schaefer; five sisters, Florence Ziegelbauer, Marcella Schaefer, Leona Engel, Edna Sabel & Virginia Lefeber; five brothers-in-law, Lawrence Engel, Gilson Sabel, Ray Ziegelbauer, Sylvester Kraus and Ed Schumacher; two sisters-in-law, Marcie Sabel and Bernice Schaefer and a step-grandson, Louis Meinert. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Holy Family Parish: St. Peter Church N8079 Church Road Malone, WI. Rev. Victor Capriolo will officiate. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Abler-Engel Post 454 will be in the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud on Monday, November 29th from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at the church in St. Peter on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
