Cohen Luis Barajas (July 2, 2005 - May 14, 2024)

On the evening of May 14, 2024, our Cohen, who was so full of life and love, was called Home to be with the Lord. Cohen was born and raised in New Holstein, WI, where he impacted the lives of so many. From the time he was born, it was clear to all who knew him best: Cohen was like a hummingbird, flitting from one place to the next, always ready for the next adventure.

Cohen was as active as they come. He was a Cub Scout and later a Boy Scout. He participated in soccer, basketball, football, golf, wrestling, and Cross Country for New Holstein schools, and if he could have done more, he would have. Cohen loved his time with the high school musicals, most notably playing Audrey II (the plant with a terrible appetite) in "A Little Shop of Horrors." He greatly enjoyed his time on a youth trip with his peers at Zion Lutheran Church. He completed classes this past Spring at Lakeshore Technical College. All of this, along with the love and care he received from his family, his friends, neighbors, coaches, teachers, and pastor, helped to shape Cohen into the fine young man he became.

Every day of his life, he was authentically Cohen. And he never gave less than his all. His family recalls learning about the special attention he gave to residents at Willowdale Health Center, where he worked, and were not at all surprised. Cohen didn't know another way to be other than authentic, caring, and deeply sensitive toward others. His energy and humor always found a way to brighten someone's day.

Many share fond memories with Cohen that will be cherished forever: his way of flitting in to say "Hey, ________!" and then flitting over to the next person or activity shortly after; asking his Grandma Julie at every visit, "Grandma, do you have any licorice?" or taking his Great-Grandma Dallmann to Friar Tuck's; his deep love for animals; his heartfelt determination to always better himself; and his capacity to switch from a light and jovial mood to asking the most serious of life's questions, like "Why do girls act like that?" and "What do you think we're going to do in Heaven?"

Cohen is survived by his parents Jessica Kohlman and Luis Barajas; his brother Ethan Barajas; his maternal grandparents Ken and Julie Kohlman (Dallmann), his paternal grandfather Jesus Barajas; his maternal great-grandparents Bernita Dallmann and Ken & Marilyn Kohlman; his godmothers and aunts Lindsey Kohlman (Tyler See) and Elia Vera; his godfathers and uncles Adam (McKenna) Kohlman and Kenny Kohlman (Bethany Warner); his uncle Chris Kohlman (Krystal Pfeifer); his aunts Delilah Lopez, Anita Lopez, Antonia Vera, Maria "Concha" Vera; his uncles Robert "Tico" Lopez, Lupe Lopez; his cousins Hayli, Ely, Keira, Brielle, Charlie, Nick, Alia, Joe, Geraldo, Moses, Miguel, Sarah, Isabel, Cecy, Amanda, Lupe Jr., Monica, Andrew, Jasmine, Gabriella, Robert Jr., Sergio, Viviana, Victoria, Michael, Francisco, Lorenzo, Benny, Daniel, Adriana, Lilyana, Rebecca, Anaiyah, Layla, and Ricky; his special family member Rose Garcia (and her daughters Christina and Daniela), his mother's special friend Chris Jensen, his father's special friend Tabitha Ederer (and her daughters Shayla and Kylee), his special friend Carlie Bonde, their cat Tango, the variety of tropical fish they loved, his family's dogs Luna and Daisy; and many other family and friends.

Cohen was welcomed into eternal life by his great-grandfather Henry Dallmann, his great-grandparents Esmerelda and Juan Chavez, his grandmother Rebecca Rosemary ("the Tamale Lady"), his uncle Alex Marquez, and his cousins Melissa Braden and Johnathan Lieterman.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Cohen's family on Monday, May 20th, 2024, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061. Funeral: Family and friends are welcome to attend the visitation on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church of New Holstein, followed by the church service at 12 noon. Lunch will follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Cohen's name.

His family wishes to extend a special thanks to all first-responders, law enforcement, and medical personnel who assisted at the scene and took such great care of our Jack-Jack.

CoJack, your fire, your way of keeping it real, and your great big heart were a joy and blessing to all of us who were graced by your presence. We will never stop missing you or the twinkle in your eye and your infectious smile. We hope you know how very proud we are of the boy, teen, and young man you grew to be, and how much we love you.
