Obituary

Crescentia A. (Schnieder) Schmitz, 95, formerly of W3695 Ledge Road Malone "St. Peter" died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary. The former Crescentia Schneider was born October 2, 1914, in Silica to the late Matt J. and Rosa F. Freund Schneider. On October 2, 1935, she married Gilbert Peter Schmitz at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Peter. Gilbert preceded her in death on January 21, 2004. Crescentia was a seamstress who took great pride in her ability to sew wedding dresses and quilts. She made many brides happy being able to sew them the dress of their dreams. She also enjoyed making quilts for missions, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Crescentia was a member of Holy Family Parish St. Peter Church, the church Altar Society, the 3rd Order of St. Francis, and a member of the Catholic Knights Fond du Lac Branch. Survivors include her daughter, Donna (Jerome) Freund of Malone; her son, Joseph (Karen) Schmitz of Lake Chapala, Mexico; 14 grandchildren, Jeri Anne (Alan) Kraus of Malone, Barbara Wirkus of Lumberton, NC, Andrew (Patti) Freund of Chilton, Paul Freund of Ramstein AFB in Germany, Mark (Lisa) Freund of Wauwatosa, Mary Rose (David) Neumann of Fond du Lac, Stephen (Lynn) Freund of Howards Grove, Nicholas (Dr. Marian) Freund of Mount Calvary, Matthew (Ann) Freund of New Holstein, Helen Jean (Brian) Mott of Rubicon, Julie (Kevin) Budde of Fond du Lac, James (Tracy) Freund of Elmhurst, IL, Kyle Schmitz of Montrose, CO and Kevin Schmitz of Gypsum, CO; 30 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Helena Giebel of Mount Calvary and four brothers, Alphonse (Shirley) Schneider of Fond du Lac, Orlando Schneider of Mount Calvary, Adolph (Virginia) Schneider of St. Peter and Roman (Marcie) Schneider of Silica. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gilbert Peter Schmitz; three sisters, Loretta (Fred) Zwickey, Imelda (Edward) Nett and Dorothy (Alex) Hefter; two brothers, Bernard (Marian) Schneider and Roger (Marilyn) Schneider and two sisters-in-law, Rita Schneider and Athaline Schneider. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Holy Family Parish St. Peter Church, N8079 Church Road Malone, WI "St. Peter". Rev. Robert Stiefvater will officiate. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum at Ledgeview Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Villa Loretto Nursing Home or to St. Mary's Springs.
