Cyril W. Schaefer, age 78, of Mount Calvary, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, September 7, 2014, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home following a short illness. He was born March 31, 1936, in Mount Calvary to the late Frank & Mary (Schoenborn) Schaefer. Cyril attended Holy Cross Grade School in Mount Calvary. He served in the US Army. On August 9, 1960, he married Mary Wettstein at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chilton. Cyril had worked at the former Leverenz Shoe Company in New Holstein and Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein until his retirement. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church in Mount Calvary, the St. Anthony Society, and the Fisherman's Road Fishing Club. He was a retired member of the Mount Calvary Fire Department and a former member of the Redmen. Cyril was an avid fisherman, hunter, woodworker, and "storyteller". Survivors include his wife, Mary; six children, Cyril Jr. (Julie) Schaefer of Mount Calvary, Geri Anne (Chris) Lein of New Berlin, Lisa (Dan) Des Jardin of Pewaukee, Tom (Jodi) Schaefer of Mount Calvary, Amy Smith of Fond du Lac, and Mary Beth (John) Rank of Oshkosh; 15 grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Krohn, Tim Schaefer, Ashley Schaefer (Fiance' Nathan Beyer), Brian Schaefer, Dane Schaefer, Adam Lein, Katie Lein, Melissa Des Jardin, Brandon Des Jardin, Amanda Schaefer, Aaron Schaefer, Makayla Smith, Noah Smith, Owen Smith, and Payton Smith; two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Kennedy Krohn; his mother-in-law, Rose Wettstein of Chilton; his brother, James (Mary) Schaefer of Mount Calvary; his aunt, Mildred Schaefer of Mount Calvary; his brother-in-law, Eugene Lefeber of New Holstein; many nieces, nephews, other relatives; and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank & Mary Schaefer; a grandson, Matthew Schaefer; five sisters; and three brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 12, 2014, at St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church 308 County Road W Mount Calvary, WI 53057. Rev. Gary Wegner OFM Cap will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted at the church following the mass. Inurnment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Mount Calvary. Family and friends may call at the St. Isidore Parish-Holy Cross Church on Thursday, September 11th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again at the church Friday morning September 12th from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM. A prayer service will be held at the church Thursday evening at 8:00 PM.
