Daniel J. Gilsdorf, age 52, of Reedsville, passed away on June 1, 2014 at his residence with his family by his side. Dan was born on September 25, 1961 in Chilton, son of Joseph and Rose (Wall) Gilsdorf. He was a graduate of Brillion High School, class of 1980. He went on to further his education at Fox Valley Technical College, graduating with an Associate Degree in Computer Science. Over the next couple of years, he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree, also in Computer Science, at Lakeland College. On October 22, 1988, Dan married Mary Brochtrup at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Reedsville. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this past year. He was employed at Lakeside Foods in Manitowoc as the Network and Operations Manager for 19 years. Dan was a 6 year member of the Brillion Fire Department and went on to serve the Reedsville community for 19 years on the Reedsville Fire Department. He retired last year as a Captain. He also was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, taking a hunting trip out west, fishing, taking fishing trips to Canada, water skiing, and playing his acoustic guitar. Dan also enjoyed watching his children and coaching their teams for baseball, basketball, and softball as well as attending all grade school and high school sporting events. Survivors include his wife Mary; their children: Danielle Gilsdorf and special friend: Deven Krepline, Michael Gilsdorf and special friend: Carlee White, and Brock Gilsdorf and special friend: Ali Verbeten; his parents: Joe and Rose Gilsdorf; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ken and Bernice (Schuh) Brochtrup; siblings and in-laws: Barbara (John) Behnke of Brillion, Mary (Todd) Herman of Darboy, Stephen (Karen) Gilsdorf of Little Chute, Elaine (Mark) Brochtrup of Darboy, Linda (Robert) Beyer of Reedsville, Jeffrey (Barbara) Brochtrup of Madison, Barbara (William) Lorrigan of Reedsville, Gary (Nancy) Brochtrup of Reedsville, Kathryn (Christopher) Audino of Sheboygan Falls, Jay (Natalie) Brochtrup of Ceder Grove, Tammie (Charles) Warzecha of Portage, Scott (Geneva) Brochtrup of Sullivan, and Craig (Jessica) Brochtrup of North Aurora, IL; godchildren: Stacey Brochtrup, Jacquelyn Schuh, and Hannah Brochtrup; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son Jonathon Daniel Gilsdorf. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whitelaw. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Burial will take place in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Brillion. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Reedsville, 15 7th Street, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. A prayer service will conclude the evening visitation. Morning visitation will occur on Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Online condolences may be made at www.wieting-funeralhome.com In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated in Dan's name. Dan's family would like to express their gratitude for all of the assistance provided by relatives, neighbors, friends, the Reedsville Fire Department and the entire Reedsville community during Dan's battle with cancer.
