Daniel S. Podobinski, age 62, of 1936 Herman Road, Manitowoc, passed away on July 9, 2011 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, after a six year battle with prostate cancer. Daniel was born on August 19, 1948 in St. Paul, MN, son of the late Stephen and LaVerne (Mueller) Podobinski. He attended Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul, graduating with his class. Daniel then spent two year serving our country in the United States Army as a combat medic. He was stationed at 2nd General Hospital in Landstuahl, Germany. Daniel moved to Manitowoc in 1982 with the Foley Co., and then later worked for the Mirro Co., working there 22 years until the company moved operation to Mexico in 2003. Daniel finished his working career at Lowes of Manitowoc, being an associate there for 6 years. On February 14, 2000, Daniel married Barbara (Ditter) Simon in Jamaica. Survivors include his loving wife: Barbara of Manitowoc; his son and daughter-in-law: Christopher and Shara Podobinski of Biloxi, Mississippi; his daughter: Mary Podobinski of Fridley, MN; his step children: Michael (Megan) Simons of Valders, Melissa (Jeremy) Aschenbrenner of Whitelaw, Megan (fianc Zach Schneider) Simon of Appleton, Holly Simon of Fort Jackson, SC; and Anton Simon of Manitowoc; four grandchildren and three step grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law: Peter and Rosie Podobinski of St. Paul, MN; his mother-in-law: Ester Ditter of Chilton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: David Ditter of Malone; Larry and Jody Ditter of Chilton; Kenneth and Karlene Ditter of Fond Du Lac; Daniel and Joyce Ditter of Chilton; Ralph Ditter of Chilton; Judy and Jim Loefer of Reedsville; Tom and Karen Ditter of Chilton; Ron and Jodi Ditter of Chilton; Gerry and Peggy Ditter of St. Nazianz; and Susan and Daniel Loose of Reedsville. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, his aunts: Bonnie Podobinski, Angie Podobinski, Cele Podobinski, Jennette Selinski,and Frances Frannie Podobinski, all of St. Paul, MN, and Sr. Peter Podobinski of Chicago, IL. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and LaVerne; his step-mother: Mary (Niewinski) Podobinski; his father-in-law: Ernest Ditter; various aunts and uncles; and a niece: Lindsay Loefer. Private family services were held. The Wieting Funeral Home in Reedsville assisted the Podobinski family with arrangements.
