Darrel S. Daun, age 54, of rural St. Cloud "Marytown" passed away with his loving family at his side on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at his home following a short battle with cancer.
He was born September 21, 1961, to Anna Marie (Sippel) Daun and the late Severin Daun.
Darrel attended Holy Rosary Catholic Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1979.
On September 24, 1988, he married Susan Theresa Schmitz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown.
He worked at Chilton Products for a few years before beginning his almost 30 year career with the United States Postal Service. The various post offices included, Chilton, Kiel, Fond du Lac, Oostburg, Baraboo, Berlin, Manitowoc and most recently with New Holstein where he was the Postmaster.
Darrel loved to fish, it was his passion, loved hunting, woodworking and watching the Green Bay Packers, attending his children's sports activities and school functions, and watching car racing. He and his wife built their own log home in the Marytown area in 1989. His children and family was his zest for life.
Darrel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; his children, Eric and his girlfriend, Lydia and Abby and her boyfriend, Desmond, both at home; his mother, Anna Marie Daun of New Holstein; his brothers and sisters, Pat (Alan) Hilt of Fond du Lac, Wayne (Ann) Daun of Marytown, Kathy (Bob) Muellenbach of St. Cloud, Warren (Betty) Daun of Minnesota, Mary (Doug) Franzen of New Holstein; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eugene (Dolores) Schmitz of Marytown; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim (Barb) Schmitz of Milwaukee, Dave (Kay) Schmitz of Sheboygan, Dr. Paul (Tracy) Schmitz of Green Bay, Dianna (Larry) Wolff of Two Rivers, Deb (Gary) Friederichs of Chilton, Joan Schmitz of Fond du Lac and Brian (Christy) Schmitz of New Holstein. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death was his father, Severin Daun and aunts and uncles.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown (N10232 County Road G, New Holstein, WI 53061). Rev. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap. will officiate. Darrel will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery.
Visitation: Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue New Holstein, WI 53061 on Friday, September 16th from 4:00PM – 8:00PM and at the church in Marytown Saturday morning, September 17th, from 9:00AM – 10:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for his children's education.
