David C. Engel, age 81, of rural Mount Calvary (Town of Forest), passed away with his family at his side on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at SSM St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.

He was born April 30, 1943, in Mount Calvary to Lawrence and Leona (Schaefer) Engel. David graduated from Goodrich High School in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965. On January 6, 1968, he married Bonnie Zupke, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary.

Most of his employment years, he worked for Castellan Tile & Terrazzo for 28 ½ years. He also had a small hobby farm with over 500 hogs. He was a member of the Fond du Lac County Pork Producers for many years. He was a volunteer umpire for many softball games and loved to bowl with the league in Mount Calvary and later on in Fond du Lac. David enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and cats. He enjoyed watching sports and westerns.

David was a member of the Mount Calvary American Legion Abler-Engel Post 454.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bonnie; his five children, Theresa (Andy) Berg, Tina (Steve) Engelhardt, Tim (Dawn) Engel, Tanya (Dan) Finstad, and Tom Engel (special friend, Heidi); 15 grandchildren, Todd, Ryan, Jordan, and Amber Berg, Ariel (Tony) Polakowski, Lexi Engelhardt, Jenna Iwen, Travis (Tianna) Engel, Taylor (Hunter) Conway, Trevor Engel, Keshia (Alex) Porter, Kylie, Douglas, and Dylan Finstad, and Natalie Engel; six great-grandchildren, Melody, Coralena, Maxine, and Morgan Polakowski, Reid and Daisy Conway; his sister, Cecilia Ries; his brother, Bill (Laura) Engel; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Darrell Zupke, Debbie (John) Gierach, Lori Krueger (fiancé, Randy Leichtfuss), and Ronnie Zupke (special friend, Jeannie Bardsley). He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lawrence and Leona Engel; his brother, Allen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Millard and Mildred Zupke; his sister-in-law, Shirley (Gene) Rieder; and brothers-in-law, Harvey Zupke and Norman Ries.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac, WI 54935. Military Rites conducted by State Military Honors and the Abler-Engel Post 454 will be conducted at the church following the Mass.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with David's family at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street, St. Cloud, WI on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be at Holy Family Church on Friday, August 30th from 12:00 PM until 12:45 PM.

David's family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at SSM St. Agnes Hospital for the good care given to him during his hospital stay. We also extend our thanks to everyone who came to visit him in the hospital, especially his boss, Bob Castellan and his wife, Kathy and his good friends, Dan and Sue Spielvogel.
