Obituary

David C. Horn, age 82, of St. Joe (rural St. Cloud), passed away with his family at his side on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. He was born February 7, 1932, to the late John & Anna (Steffen) Horn. David attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1950. David served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. On September 7, 1955, he married Ludwina "Peggy" Rieth at St. Anna Catholic Church in St. Anna. Peggy preceded him in death on July 29, 2010. David had worked at the Kohler Company for 15 years and also farmed with his wife and in partnership with his brother, Harvey, along with the family on their farm in the Town of Marshfield near St. Joe. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish-St. Joseph Church, the St. Cloud American Legion Post 478, and the Catholic Life Financial Branch 179 of St. Cloud. He was an avid bowler, loved to hunt and fish. David was an avid Packer fan and he and Peggy enjoyed going to Casinos and traveling, especially on two day trips. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Andrew "Andy" (RoseAnn) Horn of St. Cloud, Gordon "Gordy" (Kathleen) Horn of St. Cloud, and Phyllis "Tootie" (James) Koehler of Marytown; his grandchildren, Pamela (Charles) Pierquet, Jeffrey (Jill) Horn, and Kate and Anna Horn; his great-grandchildren, Quintin and Kylee Pierquet, Jenna, Jaci, and Jacob Horn; his brother, Harvey Horn of St. Cloud; his sister, Verna Mae (Carl) Walsh of Plymouth; his in-laws, Lillian (Roger) Hansen of New Holstein, Evelyn (Alvin) Preissner of Pipe, and Mary Gertrude Rieth of Chilton. Preceding him in death were his parents, John C. & Ann Horn; his wife, Peggy; a granddaughter, Hope Marie Koehler; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clemens & Barbara Rieth; brother-in-law, Orville Rieth; and sister-in-law, Bernetta (David) Gilsdorf. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 21, 2014, at St. Isidore Parish-St. Joseph Church W620 County Road G St. Cloud, WI 53079 (St. Joe). Rev. Gary Wegner OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the St. Cloud American Legion Post 478 will take place in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud on Sunday, July 20th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again at the funeral home Monday morning, July 21st from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM when brief rites will be held. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Sunday evening at 6:45 PM.
