Obituary

David R. Schaefer, age 88, formerly of Mount Calvary, passed away with his family at his side on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Caring Hands Assisted Living in New Holstein.

He was born September 28, 1937, in Mount Calvary, to Henry & Mildred (Lefeber) Schaefer. David attended Holy Cross Catholic School in Mount Calvary.

On September 15, 1962, he married Doris Schmitt at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary. David had served in the Army & National Guard. He worked at the former Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein for 40+ years until retiring.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time up North which was his true passion. He was very talented with woodworking and was considered an all-around handy man and was always willing to lend a hand to others. David was considered a very kind, gentle, hardworking, patient, and caring man.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Doris; his three children, Darryl (Julie) Schaefer of Kiel, Darla Schaefer (John Mathes) of New Holstein, and Dustin Schaefer of rural New Holstein "Marytown"; three grandchildren, Jeremiah (Amy) Schaefer, Kevin (Melanie) Schneider, and Travis (Alliee) Schneider; six great-grandchildren, Olivia & Ethan Schaefer, Caden Schneider, Gia, Callen, & Hallie Schneider, and the seventh great grandchild expected this coming November; his brothers & sisters, Gerald (Rosemary) Schaefer of Oshkosh, Harold (Mary Jane) Schaefer of Mount Calvary, Shirley Boeder of St. Peter, Lorna (Harry) Ribbke of Madison, Nancy Struck of Mount Calvary, and Barbara Schaefer (Vicky) of Glenbeulah; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Schmitt of Plymouth. He is further survived by numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry & Mildred Schaefer; father-in-law & mother-in-law, George & Delphine Schmitt; his brothers, Kenneth (Katy) Schaefer & Allan Schaefer; and two brothers-in-law, Leroy Boeder and Ronald Schmitt.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061. Military Honors will be conducted after the service. Private inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Mount Calvary.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with David's family at the Sippel Funeral Home in New Holstein on Tuesday, June 30th from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

David's family expresses their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at Caring Hands Assisted Living for their exceptional and loving care they gave to him and to the staff members of Calumet County Hospice for making his last weeks comfortable.
