David E. Wiegert, Sr.

August 25, 1938 — March 21, 2022

David E. Wiegert Sr, 83, Greenleaf passed away on March 21, 2022.  Dave was a lifelong resident of Greenleaf.

He was born on Aug 25, 1938 in Appleton, son of the late Melvin and Bertha (Beach) Wiegert.  Dave met his wife at Van Abel's and on Nov 3 1960 he married the love of his life, Laverne Kempen at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Wrightstown WI.  They we married for 61 years.

Dave served 2 years with the US Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton, CA.  He drove amphibious vehicles and spent time working on the Amtrak in Alaska before it became a state.  After the service, Dave was a shipping clerk at Badger Northland for 32 years. One of Dave’s favorite past times was puttering around in his garden where he grew a wide variety of vegetables and fruits on his hobby farm.  He also enjoyed traveling with his wife on the Bay Bus touring out west, NYC and Washington DC, and for several years spend the month of Feb down in Panama City Beach, FL.   For many years Dave enjoyed making Booyah at the annual church picnic at St Patrick’s Church.  He enjoyed having a daily breakfast at D&G’s.

Survivors include his wife Laverne, Greenleaf, his six children Sue (Mike) Baker, Roswell NM, Tony (Ellen Trimberger) DePere, Shari Delzer (special friend Tom Falk), Howard, Lynn (Tom) Brunner, Wausau, Ken (Geri Van Schyndel), Waupaca, Dave Jr (Sara Biese), Hollandtown.

15 grandchildren, Kristen Baker (special friend David), Stephanie Baker (fiancée Michael Caughlin), Jessica Burkett (Nick), Kyle Wiegert, Zack Winans (special friend Cami), Quinn Winans, Laura Brunner (Jackson Beck) Wausau, Allison Brunner, Taylor Wiegert, Alex (Charlie) Larson, Nick Wiegert (fiancée Kayla Grimes), Bryce Wiegert (fiancée Megan Brochtrup), Shane Wiegert (special friend Maggie)

2 great grandchildren, Isaac and Victoria Larson.

4 siblings, Myrtle Woodcock, Valders, William (Jan) Wiegert, Greenleaf, John (Marilyn) Wiegert, Greenleaf, Charles (Lois) Wiegert, Pulaski, sister-in-law Lou (Leick) Wiegert,

Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arlene Bruecker, Janice (Erv) Nettekoven, Hal Kempen (special friend Diana), Jerry Kempen, Sue (Paul) Datta as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Bertha, brother Paul Wiegert, infant sister Bertha Wiegert, in laws Peter and Johanna Marie Kempen, step mother-in-law Mary Kempen, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jay Woodcock, Marvin and Ceil Kempen, Boniface and Ann Kempen, Lorna and Bill Van Handel, Roger Bruecker, Geri Kempen, Richard Kempen, and son in law Gary Delzer.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Clare Parish in Askeaton, WI.  Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Brian Wideman. Burial will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.
