Delmar Anthony Petrie. Born in Mt. Calvary on March 5, 1931. Died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the age of 87. Delmar was the son of Anthony and Regina (Blatz) Petrie. He married Sylvia Hanke on June 25, 1952 in New Holstein. Delmar was a mechanic at Abhold's Garage in Mt. Calvary for 41 years. He was the handyman that would do endless projects for all of his children, grandchildren, other family and friends. He could be so proud to know that his mechanical and handyman abilities have been passed on to his next generations and they have all thanked him for teaching them all he knew. He was a very civic minded man. He served as the Mt. Calvary Village President from 1973 thru 2000 where his gift of conversation and listening served him well. He also retired as a Captain for the Mt. Calvary Volunteer Fire Department after many years. Another example of his community involvement was being a member of the Holy Cross Parish serving on the parish council and as an usher for many years. Delmar served in the Marines at the rank of Sergeant in the Korean War from 1951-1953. Following his service in the war, he joined as a member of the Abler-Engel Unit 454 American Legion. He held many leadership positions as well as a participant of the drill squad for numerous years. He was a very proud military veteran that had the privilege of traveling on the Northeast Wisconsin Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2014. Delmar lived life to the fullest, taking advantage of every opportunity to enjoy family and friends. He cherished every moment with grandchildren and great grandchildren and their hearts are deeply connected to him. Spending time with Grandpa will always be a highlight of their lives. Those left behind to truly cherish his memory include his loving wife of almost 66 years, Sylvia, his six children; Linda (Daniel) Stephanie of St. Cloud, Sharon (Daniel) Freund of Malone, Michael (Nancy) Petrie of Mt. Calvary, Thomas Petrie of Kewaskum, Kevin (Kristine) Petrie of Fond du Lac, and Lois (Ron) Mashin of Mt. Calvary. Grandchildren: Amy (Matthew) Goebel, Michael Stephanie, Nicole (Matthew) Schneider, Carrie (Zach) Bond, Heather (Aric) McArthur, Stacy (Matthew) Lisch, Jason (Stefanie) Petrie, Timothy (Becky) Freund, Marc (Krystal) Stephanie, Holly (Shawn) Semph, Lucus (Jessica) Petrie, Jared (Rachel) Petrie, Anthony (Megan) Petrie, Evan (Amanda) Petrie, Travis Mashin, Seth Petrie, and Courtney (Robbie) Seipel. Great-Grandchildren: Isaac Bond, Hayden Lisch, Anna Goebel, Elizabeth Bond, Alaina Lisch, Ruby Stephanie, Emma Stephanie, Max Goebel, Ava Bond, Adelle Schneider, Vera Petrie, Amelia Stephanie, Carlee Stephanie, Alex Schneider, Owen Petrie, Finley Petrie, Aiden Petrie, Sylvia Petrie, Ella Petrie, Marie Freund, Parker Petrie, Otto Petrie, Ethan Petrie, and Kalvin Semph. Also survived by his sisters and brothers in law, Wanda Schuh, Eugene Hanke, Eunice Scheberl, Rosemary Washick, Roseanna Palkovich, Angeline (Howard) Scheberl, Darlene Bauer, Lloyd Hanke, and David Hanke along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Regina (Blatz) Petrie, brother Willard (Joyce) Petrie, grandson Joseph Freund and great granddaughter Vivian Freund. Brothers in law Merlin Hanke, Eugene Schuh, Arthur Washick, Raymond Palkovich, and Dennis Bauer. Sisters in law Violet Hanke, Bernice Hanke and Donna Hanke. Visitation: family and friends may greet the family at St. Isadore Parish – Holy Cross Church, 308 S. County Rd. W, Mt. Calvary WI 53057 on Tuesday, June 12th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Rev. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
