Delores M. Schwalenberg, age 97, a resident of Hilbert, died peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Garrow Villa, Brillion, with her family by her side.
She was born on May 19, 1927 in Brillion, daughter of the late Henry and Esther (Wenzel) Hillmann. Delores was a graduate of Brillion High School, Class of 1945. On May 1, 1948 she married Cyril A. Schwalenberg at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brillion. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2008. Delores was employed at the cheese factory in Hilbert after raising her family. Her faith and volunteering were important to her, and she was very active at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Hilbert and donated 16 gallons of blood to the Red Cross. Delores enjoyed baking and always had fresh bread, treats, and snacks for her children when they were younger. She also enjoyed embroidery and fine needlework, crocheting, puzzles, cribbage, word searches, and breakfasts and cards with her family and cousins. During her stay at Garrow Villa, she enjoyed watching the squirrels from her window. She was the last to leave a family event or function, because she didn’t want to miss anything. On Sundays, she enjoyed her church meetings with her family. Above all, Delores loved her family, and she enjoyed when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come over so she could babysit or visit with them.
Delores is survived by her children and spouses: Pat Schaefer of Hilbert, Charles of Missouri, Kathy (Steve) Hemauer of Hilbert, Jim (Cindy) of Nebraska, Dan (Ruth) of Hilbert, Steve of Hawaii, Dave (Lori) of Hilbert, Paul (Kelly) of Chilton, and John (Amy) of Cedarburg; 29 grandchildren and spouses: Jill (Chris), Tina (Neil), Gail (Craig), Lisa (Kevin); Sam (partner Kelbie), Melanie (Kyle), Auguste, Hannah, Ben (Laura-Beth), Heidi, Ted, Martha (Rory); Chris; Scott (fiance’ Megan), Jena (Adam); Dana (Shawn), Leah; Kim (Eric), Mitch; April (Travis), Amber (Kiel); Alec, Austin (Danielle), Aaron; Preston (Hattie), Carissa (Cody); Alexa, Taylor, and Jacob; 33 great-grandchildren and two on the way; two brothers and one sister-in-law: John Hillmann and Fred (Toni) Hillmann; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cyril; son: Mike; two granddaughters: Jennifer and Amanda Hemauer; two grandsons: Adam and Jeffery; son-in-law: Paul Schaefer; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Carl & Bertha (Brandes) Schwalenberg; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Janice Hillmann and Dorothy (Elmer) Federwitz; and other relatives.
