Donald "Donny" C. Diederich, 80, of St. Cloud went peacefully home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday June 16, 2018 at Villa Loretto Nursing Home with family at his side.
He was born on September 6, 1937 in Fond du Lac, the son of Mathias and Martina (Abler) Diederich.
Donald "Big D" was known for his big heart, big giving hands, big laugh and big smile.
Donald attended St. Claudius Grade School, St. Cloud, and New Holstein High School. He served in the National Guard, Wisconsin and as a Reserve with the U.S. Army.
On October 8, 1960 he married Dorothy C. Meier at St. Mary's Church in Marytown. They made their life in St. Cloud. He was a member and greeter at St. Isidore Parish- St. Cloud Church.
Donald was a large equipment operator throughout his career. He was employed with Theel Road Construction and retired from Fond du Lac County Highway Dept. after 37 years.
Donald enjoyed bus trip travels in the U.S., country music festivals including Hodag for 35 years. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, hunting, snowmobiling, woodworking including stumpfiddles and especially family gatherings with his grandchildren and great grand dogs.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of 57 years, five children; Don (Denise) and their children, Adam (Colleen), Josh (girlfriend, Kayla) and Jake (fiancé Calli); Dennis and his children Erin, Allison and Caleb; Daniel (Katherine) and their children, Nathan, Elijah, Ethan and Isaiah; David (Kay) and their children Mitchell and Madeline and Debra (Bob) and their daughter Grace; four brothers-in-law, Ben (Arlene) Meier, Eddie Meier, Melvin (Rosie) Meier, and Br. Ray Meier; two sisters-in-law, Marian Loehr and Margaret Voss; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wilfred (Lorraine) and his sister Dolores (Melvin) Hoerl; brother-in-law, Walter Loehr; nieces, Linda Hoerl and Shirley Diederich (godchild), and one nephew, Gary Diederich.
Mass: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 22, 2018, 11:00 am at St. Isidore Parish- St. Cloud Church, 924 Main Street, St. Cloud, WI 53079. Burial will be in the St. Cloud Catholic Cemetery following the Mass.
Visitation: Family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 21, 2018, 3:30 to 8:00 pm at Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street, St. Cloud. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 pm. There will also be visitation on Friday at the funeral home from 9:00 to 10:30 am.
A memorial in Donald's name will be established.
