Obituary

Donald A. Abler, age 84, of rural Glenbeulah (Town of Greenbush), passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Mary's Burn Center in Milwaukee following an accident at his farm on Friday, December 15th.

He was born June 14, 1939, in the Town of Greenbush to William & Rose (Braun) Abler.

Don served in the Army from 1959 until being discharged honorably in 1962.

On November 11, 1967, he married Diana Buechel at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Peter.

Don and his wife and family operated the Abler dairy farm in the Town of Greenbush. After selling his cows in 1998, he worked at Riesterer & Schnell in Chilton until 2006.

He loved listening to and an occasional dance to polka music. Don enjoyed watching the Packers and Brewers as well as making frames for the many puzzles that he put together, most of them are displayed in his home.

Don was a member of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. Cloud site and the Knights of Columbus in Fond du Lac.

Survivors include his wife, Diana; his four children, Dale (Shannon) Abler of Parker, CO, Dean Abler (Laura Chase) of Shorewood, WI, Dan Abler of Milwaukee, and Deb (Mark) Steiner of New Holstein; five grandchildren, Brady (Levi) Abler, Alyssa Abler (fiancé, Steven), Kylie Abler, Jeremy (Megan) Steiner, and Cara Steiner; a great-grandson, Graham Steiner; three sisters, Lorraine Ballwanz of Fond du Lac, Marian (Ron) Freund of rural Glenbeulah, and Kathy (Al) Kempf of Anoka, MN; his brothers-in-law, Elmer Schmitz of Fond du Lac, Gerald Diederichs of Fond du Lac, and Jack Steffen of rural St. Cloud; his sisters-in-law, Joan Steffes of rural St. Cloud, Joyce (Ron) Ver Haagh of Fond du Lac, Janet Buechel of Fond du Lac, and Betty Buechel of Malone "St. Peter". Don is further survived by many nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William & Rose Abler; his two brothers, Wilfred (Marie) Abler and Roger "Cheesie" (Mary) Abler; three sisters, Julita Schmitz, Rita (Melvin) Diederichs, and Bernice Diederichs; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Herman Sr. & Ludvina Buechel; his brothers-in-law, Herman Jr. & Allen Buechel; and three sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Roger) Schneider, Betty (Lester) Stephanie, and Teresa Steffen.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-St. Cloud site, 924 Main Street, St. Cloud, WI 53079. Rev. Larry Abler, OFM Cap will officiate. Military Rites will be held following the Mass. Don will be laid to rest in the St. Cloud Catholic Cemetery following the Military Honors.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Don's family at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street St. Cloud, WI 53079 on Thursday, December 21st from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be at the funeral home Friday, December 22nd from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM.

Don's family expresses their heart-felt appreciation to the Glenbeulah First Responders and Fire Department for their assistance at the scene as well as the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department, the Flight for Life crew, and the staff at St. Mary's Burn Center in Milwaukee.
