Obituary

Donald G. Steffes, age 88, of rural St. Cloud "St. Joe", passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Willowdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein where he resided for a few days. He was born December 16, 1933, in St. Joe to Leo & Katherine (Morgan) Steffes. Don attended St. Joseph Catholic School in St. Joe and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1952. He served in the National Guard from May 1952 until May 1955. On September 28, 1963, he married Joan Buechel at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Peter. Don & Joan resided in St. Joe all their married life in the home they built. Don was employed at Kohler Company for 42 ½ years until retiring in 1996. In addition, he and his brother, Eugene had a saw sharpening business for many years. Don enjoyed wood working & spent many hours working in his shop making crafts for many people. He enjoyed his family and always looked forward to their visits. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joan; his daughter, Nancy (Brian) Preder of St. Cloud; his son Bob (Diana) Steffes of Wauwatosa; his grandchildren, Samantha (Neil) Turley, Chaislyn (Nate) Kretlow, Gabriel Preder, Fiona Steffes, and Jasmine Steffes; great-grandchildren, William Turley and Nikolai Turley; three sisters, Dolores Petrie, Pat Birschbach, and Judy Zingsheim; his two brothers, Joe (Raye Marie) Steffes and Vern (Gail) Steffes; a close family friend, Gene Burg; sisters-in-law, Diana (Don) Abler, Joyce (Ron) VerHaagh, Janet Buechel, and Betty Buechel; brother-in-law, Jack Steffen; step-brother-in-law, Dave (Karen) Tetzke; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo & Katherine Steffes; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Herman & Ludvina (Freund) Buechel; his step mother-in-law, Lucille Tetzke Buechel; his siblings, Eugene (Donna) Steffes, Sylvin Steffes, Mary Ann (Eugene) Birschbach; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Elmer Petrie, Henry Birschbach, Ed Zingsheim, Herman Buechel Jr, Allen Buechel, Marilyn (Roger) Schneider, Betty (Lester) Stephanie, and Teresa Steffen. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Our Lady of the Holyland Catholic Parish-St. Joseph Church, W620 County Road G St. Cloud, WI 53079. Entombment will take place at Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum in Fond du Lac. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Don's family at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street, St. Cloud, Wisconsin on Friday, June 3rd from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday morning, June 4th from 8:30 AM until 9:45 AM.
