Obituary

The gentle and caring soul of Dorothy C. (Meier) Diederich, age 80, of St. Cloud, went peacefully home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 27, 2019, with loving family at her side at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac following complications from undiagnosed leukemia. She was born December 27, 1938, at St. Agnes Hospital to Anton & Margaret (Franzen) Meier. Dorothy was a humble and kind woman of many abilities & talents. The common thread to her accomplishments was that she would always put others first. Dorothy tackled any and every challenge with a positive attitude. She had a quick wit and love of life. Dorothy attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Marytown and New Holstein High School. On October 8, 1960, she married Donald "Donny" C. Diederich at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown. They made their home in St. Cloud. She became an extraordinary home-maker when she and Donny started a family. Donny preceded her in death on June 16, 2018. She was a member and a greeter at St. Isidore Parish-St. Cloud Church. In her childhood and young adult years, Dorothy helped work the family farm. Prior to her marriage, she was employed with Hansen Glove Corp. in Kiel and Aluminum Specialty in Chilton. In 1973, Dorothy returned to full time 2nd shift employment at Sargento Foods in Plymouth. She retired after 28 years of employment. Dorothy and Donny enjoyed bus travels in the U.S., country music festivals including attending Hodag for 35 years. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing (family seamstress), crocheting, tying blankets, baking, cooking, gardening, canning, tending to her flowers, vending at various craft fairs, dancing, fishing, and fifth-wheel camping. Dorothy was a master at making peanut squares, and also extracting hickory nut meats. She was an avid Packer fan. She was completely devoted to loving her family. She enjoyed creating and providing great menus for all family gatherings. She made each and every grandchild feel special. Dorothy is survived by her five children, Don (Denise) Diederich and their children, Adam (Colleen), Josh, and Jake (fiance', Calli); Dennis Diederich and his children, Erin, Allison, and Caleb; Daniel (Katherine) Diederich and their children, Nathan, Elijah, Ethan, and Isaiah; David (Kay) Diederich and their children, Mitchell and Madeline; and Debra (Bob) Ratzel, and their daughter, Grace. Dorothy is further survived by her four brothers, Ben (Arlene) Meier, Eddie Meier, Melvin (Rosie) Meier, and Br. Ray Meier; her sisters, Marian Loehr and Margaret Voss; as well as nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Donny of 57 years; she missed him every day; her parents, Anton & Margaret Meier; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mathias & Martina Diederich; her brothers-in-law, Walter Loehr, Wilfred (Lorraine) Diederich; sister-in-law, Dolores (Melvin) Hoerl; nieces, Linda Hoerl and Shirley Diederich; and a nephew, Gary Diederich. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at St. Isidore Parish-St. Cloud Church, 924 Main Street, St. Cloud, WI 53079. Rev. Larry Abler, OFM Cap will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Cloud Catholic Cemetery following the Mass. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with the family at Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street on Friday, February 1st from 3:00 PM until 7:30 PM. Visitation will also be at the funeral home Saturday morning, February 2nd from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Friday evening at 7:30 PM. A memorial fund in Dorothy's name will be established. Dorothy's family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation to the St. Cloud First Responders, Mt.
