Obituary

Dorothy L. Olson, 78, of New Holstein, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Calumet Medical Center, Chilton, WI surrounded by her children. She was born July 25, 1932, in Hancock, MI, the daughter of the late John and Nana Hoyer of Houghton, MI. She was the eldest of 5 siblings. On September 6, 1952, she married Walter A. Olson Jr. in Hancock, MI. He preceded her in death October, 12, 1997. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was actively involved in both girl and boy scouts when raising her three children and did volunteer work at their schools. Dot (Dorothy) loved to curl up with a good book, she is the unofficial queen of scrabble and came up with words a professor would have to look up. She was also a very talented artist. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Christopher Allen of Cape Coral, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and James Hoffman of Whitelaw, WI; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sally (Stone) Olson of Menomonee Falls, WI; grandchildren, Jennifer and Scott Schneider of Appleton, WI; Amie and Dr. Joshua Van Gompel of Fremont, CA; Kyla and Eric Rebman of Neenah, WI; Nathan and Ginger Hoeffner of Las Vegas, NV; Matthew Hoeffner of Arlington, WI; Erik Olson of Delafield, WI; Tyler Olson of Hartland, WI; brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Vicky Hoyer of Waunakee, WI; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Donna (Hoyer) Grandchamp, and Diane (Hoyer) Crusso, and her brother, Earl Hoyer. Friends may call at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein, WI on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 1:00 PM until the time of services. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday, February 25th at the church with the Rev. John Schenck officiating. Cremation has taken place. Burial of the urn will be in the Norwegian Lutheran Church Cemetery, Oak Center at a later date. A memorial fund will be established in her name.
