Obituary

Edward "Ed" H. Welch, 69, of New Holstein, passed away with family at his side on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at the Atrium Post Acute Care Center in Chilton. Ed was born June 3, 1949, in Chilton to the late Horace & Lorraine (Popp) Welch. He graduated from New Holstein High School. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War from July 30, 1969 until July 21, 1971. On August 11, 1973, he married Linda Godard at Zion Lutheran Church in New Holstein. Ed had worked at Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein for 40 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Ed also was a life-long member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124, where he served for many years as the Post Firing Squad Commander. Ed and his family enjoyed truck four wheeling with his 1974 Blazer. It was a hobby that he began doing since 1977. Many friendships and "adopted families" were formed throughout the years. Ed is survived by his wife, Linda; three sons, Chris Welch of Daphne, AL, Eddie Welch of New Holstein, and Corey Welch of New Holstein; a grandson, Austin Welch of Georgia; a granddaughter, Brianna Welch of Manitowoc; his brother, Gary Welch of New Holstein; his and a sister, Christy Welch of New Holstein. He is further survived by a close cousin, Vivian; his brother-in-law, Glenn Godard; his sister-in-law, Judy (Dennis) Lubach; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Horace & Lorraine Welch and his grandmother, Alma Gierke. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, December 7, 2018, at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061. Rev. Azor Cigelske will officiate. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with the family at the funeral home Friday, December 7th from 3:00 PM until 5:45 PM. Military Rites conducted by the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 and Military Honors will be held at the funeral home following the service. Ed's family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation to the staff members at the Atrium in Chilton, staff members at Wood VA Hospital in Milwaukee, and caregivers from Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care.
