Edward "Eddie" J. Meier, 82, of Marytown left this world and entered his heavenly home on Monday, April 22, 2019, at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee after a battle with cancer. He was born in Marytown on December 9, 1936, to Anton & Margaret (Franzen) Meier. Edward was a dedicated, hard-working member of his parish and community who was always ready to support both of them with his time and talents. He would often be found "behind the scenes" not looking for special recognition. Edward attended St. Mary Catholic School in Marytown. He was drafted into the Army and served from 1959-1962. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown. Throughout his life he worked on the family farm of the Meier Homestead. He was employed with Tecumseh Engine Products and also sold farming supplies. Edward was an active and loyal member of New Holstein American Legion Post 124, participating in Legion activities such as parades and funeral military honors amongst others. He was also a member of the Marytown Veteran's Club. Edward was the Town of Calumet Constable for many years. Edward is survived by his three brothers, Ben (Arlene) Meier; Melvin (Rosie) Meier; and Br. Ray (Francis) Meier; his sisters, Marian Loehr and Margaret Voss; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Anton & Margaret Meier; his sister, Dorothy Diederich; brothers-in-laws, Walter Loehr; Donald Diederich; and aunts and uncles. A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown (N10232 County Road G, New Holstein, WI 53061). Rev. Larry Abler, OFM Cap will officiate. Military Rites conducted by the New Holstein American Legion Post 124 & State Military Honors will take place following the Mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery following the Mass and Military Rites. Visitation: Family and friends may visit with the family at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue, New Holstein, WI 53061 on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be at the funeral home Tuesday morning, April 30th from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Monday evening at 7:00 PM.
