Edwin A.
Koenigs
Mar 31, 1928 — Dec 1, 2023
Edwin A. Koenigs, age 95, of Malone "St. Peter", passed away into the Kingdom of God on Friday, December 1, 2023, following a brief confrontation of a tired heart and a life well lived.
He was born March 31, 1928, to Henry & Mary (Konen) Koenigs. He grew up in the Johnsburg area where he graduated and received his diploma from St. John the Baptist Catholic School.
On September 16, 1952, he married Mildred Schneider at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho; she preceded him in death on September 24, 2000.
Together they lovingly shared a life with seven children; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
In his earlier years, he worked on the family farm, at Koenigs Cheese Factory and hauled milk. Later, he was employed with Olsen Transportation and eventually for 36 years at Kiekhaefer/Mercury Marine as a machinist and machine set up operator until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed side job activities as a self-employed mink rancher for several years and as a manager of a partnership music band called the "Melody Mixers".
Eddie naturally lived a full life through family, friends, work, community organizations, his love of music, and of course nature.
The "Melody Mixers" which included his wife, Millie, brother-in-law, Hans, and family friends, Bob & Leota, provided entertainment for many establishments in areas of Fond du Lac County. This included social gatherings, parties, and church festivals to name a few. He volunteered to play music for the Fond du Lac Senior Center until age 89 with the accompaniment in later years of Roger and Leota.
Throughout his life he also enjoyed activities and affiliations with organizations to include Holy Family Parish St. Peter Church where he was a member in the choir. Other enjoyable interest were the Malone Area Heritage Museum, East Shore Conservation Club, Sturgeon for Tomorrow, Fisherman Road Fishing Club, Wisconsin Bowhunters Association, Fond du Lac area Music Association, Fond du Lac Senior Center, Pipe Senior Card Club, and the We Love to Dance Club.
Some of his proud achievement moments include an award received in 1963 for Purina Outstanding Year of Mink Breeding. As an avid sportsman, he proudly served 60 years of membership in the East Shore Conservation Club serving as president from 1964-1968 and on the Board of Directors from 1969-1979. He received the Pope and Young Award for Hunted Bear in 1996 which included a record score in both the state of Wisconsin and the US Nation Registers. At the age of 87, he was presented the Wisconsin Association Bowhunters Member of the Year Award.
Survivors include his seven children, Nancy (Adrian) Bertram, Ken (Sue) Koenigs, Randy (Mary) Koenigs, Wayne Koenigs, Kathy (Larry) Huck, Sue (Lorenzo) Medina, and Kris Koenigs; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law & brother-in-law, Germaine Mand, Romilda Schmitz, Frank (Ginny) Schneider, and Evie Muellenbach Pavlicek. He is further survived nieces; nephews; and other family members.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry & Mary Koenigs; his wife, Mildred "Millie" Koenigs; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Bruno J. & Clara G. Schneider; his brothers, Melvin (Alice) Koenigs, Delmore Koenigs, and Lawrence Koenigs; his sisters, Edna Koenigs and Ella Mae (Alphonse) Schneider; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin (Dorothy) Schneider, Marcelline (Ralph) Gundert, Dolores (Ronald) Reinl, Gilbert Mand, Donald Schmitz, Marvin Muellenbach, and Lou Pavlicek.
