Obituary

Betty J. Abler, age 89, formerly of Mt. Calvary, died on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Woodlands Senior Park in Fond du Lac where she has resided since 2010. Betty was born on September 24, 1922 in Mt. Calvary to Louis and Rose (Fritz) Schrage. She graduated in 1940 from St. Mary's Springs Academy. On February 9, 1946 she married Vernon J. Abler at Holy Cross Church in Mt. Calvary. Betty was a full time homemaker and mother to five children. She and Vernon owned and operated Abler's Meat Market where, after her children had grown, she could be found alongside Vern helping with the sausage making. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was a longtime volunteer at the Red Cross blood drives in Mt. Calvary Survivors include her five children, Paul (KC), Tom, Bob (Rita), Cathy (Dave) Marr, and Matt (Sandra); six grandchildren, Jeremy, Amanda (Ryan) Hoelz, Melissa, Dylan (Becky), Christian and Vincent; four great-grandchildren, Lilly, Cameron, Kennedy and Charlee . She is also survived by her brother Louis (Ethel) Schrage, sister-in-law Liz (Howard) Smith and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nicholas and Mary (Salchert) Abler; sisters-in-law, Mary Lucas and Myrtle Abler; brother-in-law, Alois; and nephew, Dan Schrage. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at the Sippel Funeral Home, 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud. Rev. Michael Bertram OFM Cap. will officiate. Private family entombment will be held at the Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home in St. Cloud on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of services. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial contribution in Betty's memory which will be divided between the Holyland Area Blood Drive & the Mt. Calvary Athletic Club. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers at Woodlands Senior Park with special thanks to Betty's niece, Sue Milligan.
