Obituary

Betty L. Steffes, 66, of Mount Calvary died Monday evening, April 5, 2010 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac after suffering a stroke 4 weeks earlier. She was born August 18, 1943 in Fond du Lac, to the late Clifford & Marguerite Dufrane Johnson. Betty graduated from St. Mary's Springs High School in 1961 and attended UW Oshkosh. On February 20, 1963 she married Elmer Steffes at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. Betty taught school full and part time for CPES and taught EMT classes at MPTC and Fox Valley Area Technical College. She had also worked for the Mount Calvary Ambulance Service for over 15 years and had worked at the Consultants Lab in Fond du Lac. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Calvary and a member of the Christian Women's Society. Betty enjoyed sewing, quilting and traveling. Survivors include her husband, Elmer of Mount Calvary; eight children, Dan (Jill) Steffes of Mount Calvary, Kathy (Jeff) Loppnow of Fond du Lac, Karen (Paul) Faris of Campbellsport, Kris (Kevin) Schneider of St. Cloud, Kim (Tom) Donohue of Monroe, Amy (Aharon) Laufer of Virginia, Gary (Diane) Steffes of Ohio and Thomas Steffes of Virginia; 21 grandchildren, Ryan, Alex & Eric Steffes, Jordan, Josh, Jacob & Jade Loppnow, Kayla, Matthew, Shelly, Johnny, Paulie & Kateri Faris, Brad, Eric & Kelsey Schneider, Laura Donohue, Hannah, Adam, & Henry Laufer and Nicholas Steffes; 3 great-grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Virginia Steffes of Mount Calvary; a brother, Jim (Janice) Johnson of Iowa and her sister, Diane (Jim) Haase of Arkansas. Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Joan and her father-in-law, Ben Steffes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 9, 2010 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 308 County Road W in Mount Calvary. Rev. Steven Kropp OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 1311 Thorp Street in St. Cloud on Thursday, April 8th from 4-8 PM and again Friday morning at the funeral home from 9-10:30 AM when brief family rites will be held. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening at 8:00 PM.
