Obituary

Ella Mae Schneider, age 89, of Malone passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 surrounded by her family.

Ella Mae was born January 29, 1933 to Henry and Mary (Konen) Koenigs in Johnsburg. She married Alphonse "Hans" Schneider at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg on October 2, 1951. Ella Mae and Hans began farming together in the Jericho area. In 1963, they purchased her parent's family farm in Johnsburg. In July 2021 they were awarded the Sesquicentennial Ownership Certificate by the State of Wisconsin in recognition of 150 years of continuous family farm ownership. Ella Mae and Hans celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary with their children and grandchildren at their home in October of 2021.

Mom was the anchor of our home, and her strength helped her through the difficult times of her life and ours. She worked tirelessly, raising nine children, gardening, and helping with the farm work. But, most of all mom and dad enjoyed time with their family and friends. She will always be remembered for her kind spirit, and quick wit. Mom had a deep faith, and bedtime would not be complete without her rosary in hand. She was an avid backyard birder; she and dad enjoyed feeding the birds and watching them through the kitchen window. When she wasn't watching birds, you would find her at the puzzle table with her family or her devoted caregivers. She shared dad's love of country music and rarely missed listening to the Jerry Schneider polka show on Saturday mornings.

Cherishing her memory are her children; Barbara (Steve) Knickel, Grace (Joseph) Wagner, Dave (Julie) Schneider, Gloria (Gary) Stenz, Yvonne "Bonnie" (Rick) Pfeifer, Karen (Ken) Steffes, Mike (Janet) Schneider, Dan (Sherry) Schneider, and Rick (Patti) Schneider; 21 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her brother; Edwin Koenigs; her sisters-in-law, Germaine Mand, Romilda Schmitz, and Evelyn Pavlicek; and her brother-in-law, Frank (Ginny) Schneider.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Alphonse "Hans" Schneider; her parents; Henry and Mary (Konen) Koenigs; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruno and Clara (Freund) Schneider; her brothers and sister, Melvin (Alice) Koenigs, Delmore Koenigs, Lawrence Koenigs and Edna Koenigs; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in law; Melvin (Dorothy) Schneider, Marcelline (Ralph) Gundert, Dolores (Ronald) Reinl, Mildred Koenigs, Gilbert Mand, Donald Schmitz, Marvin Muellenbach, and Lou Pavlicek.

Ella Mae's family would like to express heartfelt thanks to their mother's caregivers; Shannon Freund, Judy Costello, Lesley Wunrow, Ann Mischo, Mary Koenigs, Sandy Roepke, Angie Cochran, and Sarah Mueller for their loving care. Special thanks to Dr Strong, SSM Health, the Staff at Hospice Home of Hope, and Father Paul.
