Ellen May Coenen

Ellen May Coenen, age 90 of Land O’ Lakes, formerly of Brillion, died peacefully in her sleep on March 1, 2018. She was born March 17, 1927 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Lynda (Beck) Hale. She was a graduate of Reedsville High School Class of 1944 and was a 1945 graduate of Sheboygan Business College.  On September 18, 1948 she married Edward C. Michels in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1972. She then married Allan Coenen on December 23, 1972 in Brillion. She was employed with Brillion Public Schools from 1962 to 1987 as secretary to the high school principal. Mom loved her family dearly and was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, swimming, playing the organ, preparing lunches by the shore, playing cards with the family and the sound of the loons dancing on the lake. She was an “old fashioned” girl. Survivors include her husband Allan, her children: James (Ronda) Michels, Julianne (Gene) Huddleson, Kathleen (Fuzzy) Wieting, Michael (Julie) Coenen and Paul (Angie) Coenen. Eleven grandchildren: Evan (Amanda) Huddleson, Karissa Wieting, Matthew Wieting, Joshua (Kayla) Wieting, Nicole (Will) Fietzer, Tyler (Alexa) Coenen, Kevin Coenen, Krystle Coenen, Angel Coenen, Katianna Coenen and Zig Coenen, as well as seven great grandchildren: Brylee Ellen Huddleson, Ava Wieting, Sophia Wieting, Treven and Kimberly Fietzer, Gunner and Arie Coenen. Ellen is further survived by three sisters-in- law and one brother-in-law: Marian Gambsky, Sis Coenen and James (Rose) Coenen as well as many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ellen was preceded in death by her first husband Edward C. Michels, her siblings, John W. (Sarah) Hale, James S. (Delores) Hale, Marian (Don) Derfus, Clarice (Clarence) Wage, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jeanette (Ervin) Bubolz, Lucille (Elroy) Bubolz, Gordon Gambsky, Ralph Coenen, Carol (Chuck) Kargus, and Arlene (Don) Netzel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 West Ryan St. in Brillion. The Rev. Timothy Brandt will officiate.  Burial will be in the Brillion Community Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in Ellen’s name.
