Elmer C. Geiger, age 83 of Appleton, Wisconsin, and long time resident of Brillion, Wisconsin, has gone to walk in the Lords woods on Thursday, December 16, 2010 after battling cancer. He was born on October 3, 1927 at home on the family farm in Brillion to the late Daniel and Ida (Vogel) Geiger. He graduated from Brillion High School in 1945. He married his wife of 59 years, Bernice Wessel of Maplewood, WI on July 14, 1951 in Algoma. Elmer served in the military from 1951 to 1955 where he was stationed at Ft. Gordon, Georgia for basic and then transferred to Ft. Sill, OK for the remaining of his tour of duty. After the service, he came home to Brillion to run the family farm. In 1968 the farm was sold and he and his family moved to Brillion and he worked for Appleton Papers in Appleton until his retirement in 1992. He was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish (formerly St. Marys) of Brillion as well as the American Legion-Post 126 of Brillion. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, watching Green Bay Packer games, playing cards, square dancing, golf, joking and chatting with friends and family and tending to his woods and picking hickory nuts. He is survived by his wife Bernice, his daughter, Cheryl (Terry) Berge of Charlotte, NC; sons, Chuck Geiger of Appleton, and Robert (Charline) Geiger of Jerseyville, IL, and two grandchildren, Austin and Allison Geiger, three sisters: Hilaria Dvorachek of Reedsville, Rita (Allan) Wittman of Brillion, Dolores Diny of DePere: two brothers: Bernard (Catherine) Geiger and Daniel (Bev) Geiger of Brillion; in laws: Al Brick of Brillion and Joe Juckem of Chilton, Donald & Lorraine Wessel of Kewaunee, Harold Wessel of Green Bay and Stuart & Lorraine Storm of Algoma; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Elmer in death were his parents, Daniel and Ida Geiger of Brillion, a brother and a sister-in-law Norbert and Monica Geiger of Brillion, two sisters Ida Juckem of Chilton and Germaine Brick of Brillion, two brothers-in-law, Ed Dvorachek of Reedsville and Mike Diny of DePere, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Harley and Ethel Wessel of Maplewood and sister-in-law Virginia Hansen of FL. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, December 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion. The Rev. Matt Simonar will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, Brillion on Monday, December 20 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and then at the church on Tuesday, December 21 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service at the funeral home Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. The family would like everyone attending mass to join them after the burial for a celebration of Elmers life, food and fellowship at Cobblestone Creek of Brillion. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Elmers memory to either Holy Family Parish, 1100 W. Ryan Street, Brillion WI 54110 where monies will be used to assist families with tuition toward education at Holy Family Catholic School, or to the American Legion-Post 126, 119 Beach Street, Brillion WI 54110 where the monies will be used to assist families who currently have loved ones serving in the military.
