Elwood "Elly" Wenzel, age 90, of Collins, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Homestead Care Center in New Holstein. Elly was born on October 2, 1924 in the town of Brillion, son of the late Rueben and Luella (Matthias) Wenzel. He served our country in the United States Army from 1944-1946. On June 22, 1949 Elwood married Lucille R. Schneider at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Collins. The couple just celebrated 65 wonderful years together. They owned and operated their dairy farm, starting with nothing and building it to the business it is today. Elly enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers, and loved farming. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Collins where he served on the Board and the Cemetery Committee. Elly especially loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife: Lucille of Collins; their children and spouses: Kay (Ron) Naber of East Troy, Victor (Jeanette), Warren (Susan), and Wayne (Sharon) all of Collins; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother: Glenn of Manitowoc; in-laws: Connie Wenzel of Brillion; Lois (Gaylord) Lambries of Manitowoc, Betty Schneider of Sheboygan Falls, and Bernice Schneider of Valders; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and brother-in-law: Dorcella and Martin Hueber, one brother: Wyman, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry (Lilly) Schneider and in-laws: Annis Wenzel, and Harvey, Clarmont, Ellwood, Orville and Lila Schneider. Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Collins. Officiating will be the Rev. Ross Henzi with burial to follow in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
