Obituary

Eugene "Gene" A. Burg, age 91, of rural St. Cloud "Wolf Lake", passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Harbor Haven in Fond du Lac.

Gene was born September 11, 1934, in St. Nazianz, WI to Frank & Viola (Pickart) Burg. He attended Holy Cross Catholic Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy in 1952. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard 127 Infantry 32nd Division at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and Ft. Lewis, WA from 1955-1962.

After graduating from high school, Gene was employed at Ray E. Wood Florist as their bookkeeper. In 1956, after the untimely death of Ray E. Wood, Gene was moved to manager until 1974, when he purchased the business until selling his business in November of 1993. For over 40 years, he was a caregiver for many elderly people. After retiring, he served as a consultant and Office Manager for Personal Touch Flowers & Gifts for over 20 years. Gene also worked for the Huss Funeral Home and Sippel Funeral Home as a funeral assistant for 25 years.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Holyland-St. Joseph Site in St. Joe, a member for over 65 years of the U.C.T. #192, A life-long member of the Mt. Calvary Athletic Club, the Winnebago East Shore Lions Club, a member of the Abler-Engel American Legion Post 454 in Mt. Calvary, the Malone Area Heritage Museum, the Catholic Knights Branch 149, a former member of the Fond du Lac Noon Kiwanis Club, former member of the St. Joseph Holy Name Society, a former board member of the St. Francis Home and formerly served with the St. Mary's Springs Development Fund.

Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling and spending his off time at his cottage on Lake Noquebay in Crivitz, WI. Places Gene traveled to included, Bad-Orb, Germany, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Rome, and numerous other places. Gene was also instrumental in providing the lights for the Mt. Calvary Athletic Club Baseball Field in memory of his brother, Francis "Franz" Burg and for paying for the playground equipment in the firemen's park in Mt. Calvary. Gene was an avid Brewers fan; he held season tickets for 30 years and also a big fan of the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Joan Burg nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and many cousins. He is also survived by his special long-time friends of over 70 years, Karlheinz & Ruth Engel family of Bad Orb, Germany, the Leo & Kathryn Steffes family, Duwayne & Kathy Schneider, Greg & Laurie Schneider, Dean & Chris Schneider Dan & Cindy Riederer, Joe Gutreuter, Steve & Linda Mielke, Chet Dexter, the Ron Wiskow family, Harold & Donna Sippel family, Tom & Marlene Baus family, John & Vicki Baus and family, Tom & Sandy Koskovich, Greg & Karen Flak, Carol Flak, Mike & Jackie Birschbach, Tom & Traci Petrie, and Rev. Myron Kowalsky.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank & Viola Burg; his brothers, Francis "Franz" (Janet) Burg and Jerome Burg; paternal grandparents, Jacob & Katherine (Seurer) Burg; maternal grandparents, John & Emma (Sabel) Pickart; God child, Jodi Burg; cousin, Paul Burg; special friends, Sylvin Steffes, Harvey Horn, Donald Steffes, Vernon Steffes, Ronald Wiskow, and Steve Wiskow.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-Holy Cross Site, 308 S. County W, Mount Calvary, WI 53057. Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap will officiate. Entombment will take place at Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fond du Lac.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Gene's family at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-Holy Cross Site in Mount Calvary on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be at the church in Mount Calvary Tuesday morning, May 12th from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM.
