Eva L. Kamps, age 91, of Hilbert, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh.
Eva was born on October 14, 1932 in the town of Pittsfield, daughter of the late Herman & Marie (Timm) Stender. She was a graduate of Green Bay West High School, class of 1950. On June 7, 1958, Eva married Lyle W. Kamps in Kunesh. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2015. Eva stayed at home and raised their children until they were all in school full time. She then worked at the grocery store in Hilbert until her retirement. Eva was an active member at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert attending church and serving in the Women in Missions and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul in Hilbert. Eva was a very talented seamstress, making clothes when the children were little, sewing for missions, and sewing for herself. She was an avid gardener, especially of roses. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and watching the Brewers and Packers whenever they were on. When she could no longer do the stitching, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. Eva was known for her cut out cookies and would make them for every occasion. Family was very important to her, and she loved her children and grandchildren very much.
Eva is survived by her children and their spouses: Sallie of Merrill, Richard of Hilbert, Tom of Hilbert, Jim of Thiensville, Kurt (Jennifer) of Hilbert, and Susan (Tony) Wittmann of Hilbert; three grandchildren: Nicole Wittmann and Zachary Wittmann both of Hilbert and Andrew (Alissa) Wittmann of Nekoosa; her siblings and in-laws: Mildred “Mickey” Trudell of Green Bay, Charlotte (Dan) Hoffman of DePere, Mary (Gaynell) Pasch of Pulaski, Susan Buhs of Denver, CO, Ione Stender of Kunesh and Jack Kraszewski of Pulaski; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: William and Martha (Kersten) Kamps; siblings and in-laws: John Stender, Riley Trudell, Hazel (George) Blohowiak, Marjorie Kraszewski, infant sister Dorothy Stender, Rev. Ervin Buhs, Laverne (Herbert) Treichel, Vanita (Raymond “Butch”) Pennenberg, and Elaine (Vincent) Green.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Peterson. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
