Francis A. Schmitz, age 76, of New Holstein passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.

He was born July 11, 1947, in the Town of Marshfield near St. Joe, to Leander & Angelita (Berenz) Schmitz.

Francis attended Holy Rosary Catholic Grade School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1966; he played basketball while in school where he was one of the record holders for the most points scored in a single game.

On August 2, 1969, he married Barbara Reiss at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein.

Francis worked at the former Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein from 1966 until 1979. He then became a sales representative for Lakeside Harvestor in New Holstein until retiring in 2008.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. Francis was a City of New Holstein Alderman serving for 12 years, served as the Stewart for the Local Lodge 1259 where he was part of the bargaining committee to negotiate contracts for Tecumseh Engine Products. When in his free time, he enjoyed working in his yard, as well as going hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two children, his daughter, Brigette (David) Sonnabend of Brillion and their children, Parker and Hilary, his son, Tim (Jeana) Schmitz of Fond du Lac and their children, Ella and Landon; his sister, Mary Ann Dietz of New Holstein; his sisters-in-law, Sandy Schmitz of Greendale, Diane Schmitz of New Holstein, Henrietta Feldman of Elkhart Lake, Patty (Jim) Krupp of New Holstein, and Tammy Reiss of Kiel; his brothers-in-law, Jerry (Brenda) Reiss of Crivitz, John (Ruth) Reiss of Fond du Lac, Henry Jr. (Barb) Reiss of Elkhart Lake, Jim (Liz) Reiss of Elkhart Lake, Joel (Bridgette) Reiss of Elkhart Lake. He is further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Leander & Angelita Schmitz; his two brothers, Robert Schmitz and Vernon Schmitz; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Henry & Laverne Reiss; brothers-in-law, Harvey Dietz and Richard Feldman; and a nephew, Adam Reiss.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street, New Holstein, WI 53061.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Francis' family at Holy Rosary Church on Monday, May 13th from 3:00 PM until 5:45 PM.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
