Obituary

Frederick Gilbert Stephany, age 86, of Malone "Johnsburg", passed away peacefully Saturday, April 27, 2024, with loving family at his side following a battle with dementia.

He was born January 24, 1938, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac to Sylvester & Lorraine (Meyer) Stephany.

Fred graduated from Chilton High School in 1956. He served in the Army, the Army Reserves, and the National Guard from 1961 until 1966.

On January 19, 1963, he married Patricia Casper at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marytown.

Fred worked 44 years at Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-Johnsburg Site, a lifetime member of the Improved Order of the Redmen in Johnsburg and the Malone Area Heritage Museum. Fred served as president for the East Shore Baseball & East Shore Basketball Leagues. He coached his daughters' softball teams through grade school as well as coaching his son's grade school basketball team.

His hobbies included sturgeon spearing, ice fishing, picking out the meat of hickory nuts and gardening. He played AC baseball for Johnsburg and continued following the team when his playing days were over.

Fred was an avid sports fan. He loved watching a game at the local baseball field in Johnsburg, where he once played. He would also listen or watch the Milwaukee Brewers, Bucks and Green Bay Packers, many times while sitting in his garage enjoying a cold beer.

Survivors include his wife, Pat; his four children, his daughter, Jacqueline (Mark) Addink of Minnetonka, MN, his daughter, Susan (James) Tiegs of Grafton, WI, and their sons, Connor & Jaeden, his daughter, Sharon (Michael) Peck of Franklin, WI and their daughters, Melanie & Madelyn, and his son, Timothy (Tuyen) of Savage, MN and their sons, Jackson & Brody. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law, Mary Stephany, Eileen Birschbach, Rose (Jerry) Criter, Janet (Gary) Griffiths and Janice Casper; his brothers-in-law, Elmer (Susan) Casper and John Casper; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Sylvester & Lorraine Stephany: a brother, William Stephany; and brothers-in-law, Laverne Casper and Ronald Birschbach.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Our Lady of the Holyland Parish-Johnsburg Site in "Johnsburg" (N9288 County Road W, Malone, WI 53049). Rev. Paul Koenig, OFM Cap will officiate. Military Rites will take place in the church following the Mass.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit Fred's family at the church in Johnsburg on Saturday morning, May 18th from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM.

Fred's family extends their heart-felt appreciation to the staff of Willowdale Health Services and Compasses Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
