Gerald "Jerry" Roger George Ebert

Gerald Jerry Roger George Ebert, age 78, of 20204 West Goodwin Road, Reedsville, passed away peacefully in his home on January 26, 2011 with family at his side. Jerry was born in the Town of Rockland on February 21, 1932, son of the late William and Aurella (Krueger) Ebert. He married Joanne M. Wenzel on September 25, 1954 at Peace Evangelical Church in Potter. Jerry graduated from Reedsville High School, class of 1949. His basketball career started as a freshman at R.H.S. The following three years, he was on the Varsity team. He began playing in the Manitowoc County Baseball League with his two brothers William and Carvel, who were his mentors. The Ebert Brothers enjoyed playing the outfield together. Jerry was also an avid deer hunter with family and friends. The Ebert family ran the homestead farm for many years. For decades, he and his wife Joanne worked in various sales companies, thus enabling them to travel the United States and abroad. In recent years, Grandpa was his grandchildrens biggest fan, watching them participate in various activities. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years: Joanne, Reedsville; seven children, 20 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; a daughter and son-in-law: Wendy and Jeff Luedtke, Manitowoc and their children: Ashley (Kevin) Kleiber, Manitowoc, Samantha Luedtke, Phoenix, AZ; another daughter: Cheri Sheehy, Onalaska and children: Matthew Sheehy, Onalaska, Kristen (Patrick) Fay, Holmen; and Dana (Peter) Redfield, St. Paul, MN; a son and daughter-in-law: John and Rose Ebert, Reedsville and their children: Terri, Minneapolis, MN, Josh and Jordan Ebert, both of Reedsville, a daughter and son-in-law: Susan and Russell Koch, Manitowoc; a son and daughter-in-law: Tom and Kate Ebert, Brillion and their children: Lindsay Ebert, San Diego, CA, Kayla (fiance Jeff Thomas) Ebert, Madison, TJ Ebert, Wauwatosa, and Riley Ebert, River Falls; a son and daughter-in-law: Bob and Betsy Ebert, Reedsville and their children: Erica (fiance Joey Schmatz) Ebert, Reedsville, Amberlee, Austin, Elliot, and Cole, all of Reedsville; a daughter and son-in-law: Kathy and Andy Ackerman, Merton and their children: Allison, Drew and Spencer, all of Merton; a sister: Rosie Svatek, Minneapolis, MN; brother and sisters-in-law: William II and Gertie Ebert, Reedsville, Bea Ebert, Tampa, FL, Donna Wenzel, Louisville, KY, and Lois (Dick) Korns, Mountain Lake, MN; brother-in-law: Neale (Judy) Wenzel, Potter; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents: William and Aurella; son-in-law: Jon Sheehy; three siblings: Ester, Sylvia, and Carvel Ebert; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Roy and Helen (Jooss) Wenzel; three brothers-in-law: Adolph Svatek, Roger Wenzel, and Fritz Kasberger; and a sister-in-law: Margie (Wenzel) Kasberger. A Memorial Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Potter. Rev. Marc Axelrod will be officiating at the service. Jerry has been cremated and will be laid to rest in Rockland Evangelical United Brethren Cemetery, Town of Rockland, this Spring. The visitation will be at the church in Potter on Thursday evening, February 3 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday morning, February 4 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the celebration at 11:00 a.m. The Wieting Funeral Home in Reedsville is assisting the Ebert family with funeral arrangements.
