Germaine "Gerry" E. Bartel Coffeen, age 95, of New Holstein, formerly of Marytown, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Willowdale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein.
The former Germaine Langer was born August 29, 1922, in Jericho to John & Anna (Bucholz) Langer
Gerry attended grade school at Holy Trinity in Jericho and graduated from Chilton High School.
On June 25, 1941, she married Joseph J. Bartel at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho. She and her husband Joe lived in the St. Anna area before moving to Marytown. Joe preceded her in death on July 2, 1977. On July 30, 1988, she married George W. Coffeen. The couple resided in Marytown. George preceded her in death on October 6, 2009.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown, the Altar & Rosary Society, Daughters of Isabella, and Marytown Homemakers. Gerry was a 4 H leader for many years.
Survivors include her six children, Jim (Judy) Bartel of Jerome, MI, Mark (Kay) Bartel of Lexington, TN, Ann (Rudy) Klarenaar of the Netherlands, Lee (Alice) Bartel of Chilton, Jeanne (Mark) Kuba of New Holstein, and Bruce (Dawn) Bartel of Greenleaf; a son-in-law, Jerry Monville of Rudolph, WI; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren: nine step children, Jim (Diane) Coffeen of Chilton, Judy (Tom) Stoffel of Menasha, Shirley (Larry) Schneider of New Holstein, Sandy (Bill) Sell of Menasha, Jean (Robert) Steffes of Johnsburg, Daniel Coffeen of Chilton, Cynthia Cummings of Texas, Karen (Dan) Hopp of Waupun, Patrick Coffeen of Eldorado; 25 step grandchildren; 35 step great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Andrew (Carolyn) Bartel of Malone. She is further survived by Dawn Scharf of Laconia; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John & Anna Langer; her first husband, Joseph Bartel; her second husband, George Coffeen; a daughter, Barb Monville; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hubert Sr. and Caroline Bartel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown (N10232 County Road G, New Holstein, WI 53061). Rev. Gary Wegner, OFM Cap will officiate. Gerry will be laid to rest next to her husband, Joseph in the parish cemetery following the mass.
Visitation: Family and friends may greet the family at the church Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
