Gertrude "Gertie" H. Ebert, age 90, of Reedsville, entered eternal life on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Brillion West Haven.
Gertie was born on January 10, 1925, in the town of Maple Grove, daughter of the late Arthur and Martha (Thurow) Berkholtz. She was confirmed on June 5, 1938 at St. John St James Lutheran Church. She was a 1942 Reedsville High School graduate. After graduation, she attended Miss Brown's Business College in Milwaukee. She then worked in Manitowoc at Custerdale and Household Finance.
On September 7, 1946, Gertie married the love of her life, William Ebert Jr., at St. John St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville. Together they farmed near Reedsville and raised four children. She enjoyed attending and supporting Reedsville High School athletics with her husband.
Gertie was also employed in the office at Reedsville Equity for many years. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a lifelong member of the Ladies Aid.
Gertie and Bill loved hosting AFS students Else Lund from Denmark, Emily Alcasid from the Philippines, and John Hill from Australia. They became part of the family while attending Reedsville High School.
Gertie is survived by one daughter, Nancy Boeck of Manitowoc, three sons: William Ebert III and special friend Diann Bonin of Reedsville, Gregg (Kristi) Ebert of Necedah, and David Ebert of Oconomowoc; eight grandchildren: Leah Boeck, Amanda (Dan) Heiderich, Jennifer (Mike) Durst, Jill (Glen) Braun, William IV (Tara) Ebert, Micah (Jason) Ebert, Lucas (Jayme) Ebert, and Quinn (Chris) Ebert; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Joanne Ebert of Brillion; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Bill; her parents; one daughter-in-law, Sue Ebert; one brother, Lester Berkholtz; three brothers-in-law: Adolph Svatek, Carvel Ebert, and Gerald Ebert; and five sisters-in-law: Marie Berkholtz, Sylvia Ebert, Esther Ebert, Rosema Svatek, and Beatty Ebert.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, at 11:00 am at St. John St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville. The Rev. Ross Henzi will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John St. James Westside Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of service.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brillion West Haven and Heartland Hospice for the special care shown to Gertrude.
Mom, you definitely were an example to your family of how a life should be prioritized. Your faith in Jesus was most important to you. You had a selfless attitude in serving others. We will treasure our memories of you as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We look forward to the day when we will see you again in Heaven.
